Lib Dems are yet to find a candidate! Maybe they are boycotting it, they have refused to put anyone on the licenising board ! I know - shocking. Best quote from them was: "As the group leader of the Liberal Democrats I can only give you my own views and not a group view." on STV

Christian Allard has already started accepting congratulation message from people talking about him maybe becoming MSP on Twitter. Over confident? Oui!

By election date is to be announced tomorrow. Most likely 13th June. 6th would be too soon and 20th too far away. What are others' predictions? 20th - but I have just read the posts above. :-) Have fun delivering leaflets everyone and hope there are no tenements or flats. I take it the minor parties will be notable by their absence.

I thought most of the attention seekers were already in either Labour or the SNP

Gordon Leslie is far too busy 'watching the boats' to stand.

Nice of them to donate £500 to help out the Treasury in these times of austerity.

Wooohoo, a spad. I'm not overly impressed with any of the candidates. I think if Boogie had stood I'd be 'voting' for him

Seems a bit of a stretch to include the Conservatives as amongst 'the three parties considered to be the true contenders'.

Seems a bit of a stretch to include the Conservatives as amongst 'the three parties considered to be the true contenders'. In regards to being a conservative yes.. it is a stretch.. As a councillor though Ross Thomson is very much involved with his ward.. which could potentially put some backing on his side.. especially when you compare some of the competition that appears to chop and change what his polices are...

As a councillor though Ross Thomson is very much involved with his ward.. None of which is in Aberdeen Donside. He might benefit somewhat from a low turnout and from the by-election not being seen as a contest between Alex Salmond and Iain Gray, but he won't come even remotely close to actually winning. I'd be surprised if he does substantially better than the LibDem candidate.

Yes - tories and LDs have little relevance to Donside.

Seems a bit of a stretch to include the Conservatives as amongst 'the three parties considered to be the true contenders'. Especially as a good-sized chunk of the constituency is represented at Westminster by a Lib Dem.

Yes - tories and LDs have little relevance to Donside. I cant speak for the Libdems (but then neither can their Group leader) however the Conservatives will be fighting Donside to win it we have a great candidate who has a proven track record in the city of getting things done. In other news Christian Allard who is in line to take Mark Mcdonalds list seat at Holyrood is featured in the Herald today defending Zimbabwe dictator Robert Mugabe's notorious land reform policies. Now where's that double face palm picture...
