Surprisingly? Didn't they replaced Sunderland as the fastest counting council on general election night? Wrong Newcastle! Oh, you meant the one that had its electoral services taken over by Stoke at a point.

CITY OF LONDON; Bread Street, Alderman (Independent putting up for re-election) The guide is wonderfully spiky: "Peering through the doors of the closed City of London Information Centre I saw a red bus fridge magnet, a rubber duck dressed as William Shakespeare, and a copy of the Brighton food and drink guide" Given the Brighton reference, the duck may well have come from here: www.theduckhousebrighton.online/My daughter has Marilyn Monroe.

HEREFORDSHIRE BY-ELECTION HAS BEEN CANCELLED as the candidate has died Toby Murcot Ind sadly The others all count on Thursday evening from Facebook ‘It is with huge sadness that I have to let you know that Toby Murcott sadly and suddenly passed away on Monday 28th August after a brief illness. Toby was a truly good man and a devoted family man. He was hugely intelligent, with a great gift for explaining things without condescension. He was funny and warm. He was an honest and loyal friend. Toby loved living in the Golden Valley and was dedicated to making it a better place for its residents. He devoted a huge amount of his time to projects in the area including developing the local Neighbourhood plan, and he spent hours and hours trying to fathom and help solve the inequities of rural Broadband supply, regularly updating local people with the latest developments (or more usually, non-developments). He was a longtime member and latterly Chair of Abbeydore and Bacton Parish Council and was very much looking forward to (hopefully) becoming the local ward councillor, a role in which he genuinely felt he could make a difference. He had very much enjoyed his brief time canvassing, meeting and chatting to people on the doorstep and at a wide range of local events. He will be sorely missed by everyone who had the fortune to know him. As a result the by-election for Golden Valley South due to be held on Thursday 7th September has been postponed. A new date will be announced in due course.’

HEREFORDSHIRE BY-ELECTION HAS BEEN CANCELLED as the candidate has died Toby Murcot Ind sadly The others all count on Thursday evening In the event of a delayed / countermanded election (due to the death of a candidate) does the council have to send out poll cards to tell the electors about it? (i.e. like the ones that tell you where the polling station is)?

Forgive me, I'm still out of sorts with this. I thought the death of an independent candidate meant the election could go ahead because there's no replacement needed?

The law for local government elections wasn't changed. Which sort of makes sense as they're far more likely to be serious contenders. Sort of. Imagine the uproar if Martin Bell had suddenly died in late april 1997.

Do we know anything about the Labour resignations in Newcastle? I desperately need help with the prediction competition…. One was because of public comments made by her due to her being removed from her position in a local charity. One because she wasn’t allowed on the CLP list for members to select the PPC.

Both counts start at 2230 at Castle House (the Civic Offices) Odd in the sense only that they did the last Knutton one that Derrick Huckfield won at Keele Hall coming in for some criticism locally that they allegedly didn’t have a suitable room in the relatively new Castle House.
