Just means another three months of Labour campaigning to win the inevitable byelection. tbf in both Peterborough and Leicester East where drawn out proceedings took place it didn't actually do as much damage as one would think. Labour held Peterborough in unusual circumstances tbf and Claudia Webbe was actual successful in reducing her sentence which avoided a suspension and recall petition

Unlikely Pincher will now be forced out before mid- November. Seat could remain vacant until mid- February by which time it may be too close to GE to justify holding a by election.

Even if it takes that long, there doesn't *have* to be a GE until the turn of 2024/25. Which would be rather a while for the seat to be without an MP.

Well yes I know about the *likely* dates, but one reason why seats remained unfilled in 1997 and 2010 was that they fell vacant closer to the statutory end of the parliament.

When is Parliament actually going to vote on Chris Pincher's suspension? Recall petitions if initiated have to run for 6 weeks.

Currently Chris Pincher is appealing the committee's decision (recommending suspension). Until that is completed no vote in parliament on the suspension can be scheduled.

Chris Pincher loses appeal against suspension. Wouldn't surprise me if he decides now to resign by the end of the week rather than facing a recall petition he will almost certainly lose...given the calling for Mid Bedfordshire won't be moved until the 12th September there's still a possibility that it could mean this by-election on the same date as Mid Beds which might make it easier for Labour to take a step back to focus on Tamworth (and Rutherglen of course)

And so they should.
I'm against this "After you, Claude" approach that says it would be jolly nice to let the poor old Lib Dems have a go occasionally. Politics ought to be (and generally is) a rambunctious business in which sharp elbows are a necessity.
In seats where Labour has no earthly chance it's all very well to fight only a token campaign and leave the way clear for the Lib Dems but in Mid Beds Labour have a decent chance of taking the seat. They are the principal opposition and potential government and should act like it and give it everything they've got.
