Welcome to the 21st century, Carlton. I don't give a toss whether I endear myself to you or anyone else on here FWIW. but you're the person who wants to have a get-together! It's all very odd when you claim that you don't want to meet people (maybe you only mean in elections?) and then arrange a meet-up. Getting drunk =/= campaigning. My former MP resigned due to death threats so I’d personally avoid face to face campaigning. Also look at what happened to Jo Cox and David Amess. Politics is getting scary. We also had Covid.

In over 40 years of activism I've never been scared campaigning. The occasional unpleasant or angry response. A few slammed doors. A leaflet set on fire and thrown back and another torn up in my face. I concede that I'm a pretty solid looking 6'2" guy and that can help (but it can also provoke). Being polite and good-humoured goes a long way. Smile (nicely!).
All the evidence I've ever seen suggests that personal contact, particularly with the candidate, counts a great deal, particularly with less motivated voters. There's some logic in that. A voter sees some hard work being put in and they see a human being, flawed. perhaps not entirely agreeing with their sentiments, but human.
That's not to say that digital campaigning isn't important. It certainly is. It's also fair to say that leafleting can get too much emphasis. Most accept that perhaps 80% of a leaflet's impact is the person noticing that it's been delivered by a particular party, if they do. Another 15% is the headline that can be read in the time it takes to take it to the recycling box. 5% or less is the content as few, except opposition activists looking for gaffes, read it in detail.

Voters don't really like MPs or councillors at the best of times though they do expect to see both "down their way" campaigning ("We never see you unless it's election time" and all that).

As for Peter Longman, all I have discovered is that he is a company director. Would anyone on this forum happen to know anything else about him?

Do we think the choice of the Reform Party candidate's name is coincidental or designed to confusion with the Conservative candidate? I suspect the latter.

You would expect to be treated with a level of courtesy, and other people have a right to expect it too, unless they are also engaging in the same sort of thing.

Worth going to the foot of it where "Transport for Britain" has a nice photograph of a city which isn't in Britain. Can anyone identify?

I have always been extremely courteous and polite and tolerant and lenient and laid-back and open-minded and reasonable and moderate and calm to everybody else, in spite of the repeated, continued, and ongoing provocations of a tiny minority of insane lunatics, hystericalists, irrationalists, idiots, morons, saboteurs and malevolent weirdoes who insist on trying to destroy civilisation. I don’t see why I should be expected to stand idly by and be cut in half with a scythe by a marauding gang of psychotic rhinoceroses.

Not the Flo most of us know and love. I am scatching my head at the description of the photo. A nice photo of a city? Really? Looks more like a picture of hell to me! The only thing I agree on its clearly not the UK because the vehicles are on the wrong side of the road, and if it's in Italy the term Spaghetti Junction would clearly be appropriate. And the buildings you can see clearly are the usual motorway associated dross. The only decent way to arrive in Firenze, which I have done many times, is by rail.
