I think it might be helpful if I write an update (modified 16 March)
The profiles were complete with the final two being entered on 16 March.
I shall probably do some more updating with May 2024 local election and parliamentary byelection material should the general election be delayed until at least autumn 2024, plus any more census information as released in a convenient form.
Thank you again to everyone who has helped with this huge project, and also for the restraint shown in preventing the threads degenerating into partisan bickering ...
Robert

If Pete finds himself unable to do any or all of those I would be happy to deputise

Sorry I didn't realise this was almost literally the last one you are waiting for. I will do Bedford either this evening or tomorrow - if not feel free to relieve me of post. Again it is largely written in my head

An update - that I myself have now added all Rallings & Thrasher notionals barring any profiles still absent) I believe the remaining 2 have now been claimed and promised by Pete Whitehead (1) and bungle (1) Please advise if this is wrong. These will be reallocated again if necessary to complete the project. I shall keep producing updates on this thread. Edited and updated 15 March 10.51 hrs Turned up here just too late to volunteer to do any of these! I much admire Robert's work over the years - I think it was the Third Edition I chose to receive as a school prize back in the mid 1980s.

Which would leave MS&EC as the last seat in the country to be done - attention bungle? Indeed - the point at which I inherited this profile ran straight into my week away for the Cheltenham Festival - and for that even psephology has to take a back seat. Anyway, MS & EC now complete so that's a wrap...well done everyone. Now they are done I'm looking forward to reading lots of the profiles I've not got to yet.

Well that is all 650 new constituencies profiled to a good standard. We should be very proud of that- the combined knowledge of such matters of this forum is immense- there are few other people or groups of people who could match the knowledge of this forum on constituency profiles. Well done to Robert Waller for instigating this project.

I have edited my profiles of the Ealing Central & Acton, and Ealing Southall, constituencies as I was not aware that Walpole ward is once again becoming part of the latter. Thanks to andrewp for his information on that.

I have just added some 2021 census figures from the House of Commons Library to the Northern Ireland profiles. !They were drawn to my attention by Adam Gray, thanks.

This board has attracted the attention of The Times. Now they have discovered I am still alive, they have asked me to write the brief constituency profiles (in a hurry) for the 2024 Times House of Commons book. (I last helped with this series in 1983 and 1987). I am of course consulting the entries here, though as the seats will have only 100 words each I have to create very compressed descriptions and clearly cannot indulge in mass plagiarism! However contributors may just still spot their occasional lapidary phrase or overlap in information ... for which I offer my gratitude, and I shall try to get credit published, at the least for the site.

So do we plan to update the profiles to reflect this year's results?

So do we plan to update the profiles to reflect this year's results? I think some of us may still be reeling from the 'tsunami' of interesting results, but yes, I would like to take advantage of the relative ease of updating an online Almanac. What I haven't decided - and indeed I don't believe it is just up to me - is whether (in due course) we should have an entire new board with all the threads started again. I would be very interested to have the views of contributors and consumers on this. However, I can see no reason why people shouldn't update their own profiles on the existing board - either by editing in extra material to the original posts, or making new posts at the foot of the threads. This would be useful even if we do at some point before the next election want a whole 'new edition'. Contributors, please do therefore add your own insights, if and when you wish and can. I would however prefer it if the impartial standard and style of the Almanac section be maintained, and partisan comments, arguments etc. be placed on the election constituency threads. Thank you. (I shall not be updating my own profiles just yet because of the commitments to the Times House of Commons, public exam marking, et al)

I think we probably need new boards, but if contributors want to edit their original profiles rather scantly that should be fine.

I think the electoral landscape now make these profiles more difficult! There are several I wrote in the South West that I declared as safe Conservative seats which they lost last week. Given the number of marginals now, the number of safe seats is quite small- I’m not saying it’s likely but it’s certainly possible that Labour lose 200 seats next time, which didn’t use to be the norm. In most seats it’s obvious which are the strongest areas for each party , which I guess is one of the key focuses of these profiles but I wonder if this looks like a safe Labour/ Conservative seat is much more difficult to use as a summary now.
It is noticeable that most of the ‘red wall seats’ were regained by Labour last week, but in almost all cases they look like marginals going forward not safe Lab seats. It’s certainly an interesting time- are we in the game where eg the Bournemouths are going to be better for Labour than Bolsover and Mansfield- I really wouldn’t like to say.

Every single seat in the Red Wall was regained, without exception. The ones that required the largest swings were Great Grimsby & Cleethorpes, Dudley and Bassetlaw; all were won.
