This current seat doesn’t have much of a Labour vote, but after reorganisation the Labour wards in BaNES are included & it’s then a 4 way fight. A sitting LDem MP makes them clear favourites 🙁 in the new seat That's not really the point though is it. If our campaign prevents the LDs winning (or helps prevent it) that's good enough for me It's moronic views like this that make one despair for the future of progressive politics. Mr Lefty would rather the Tories win as long as Labour are slightly better third place losers. Myn uffern!

That is also a very strange comment from someone who identifies themselves with a party. I am a Labour Party member and activist; I want Labour in government, doing Labour things, and I want what's in Labour's best interests, and I fail to see how letting a narrative of "Labour can only win with the LDs" take hold or worse helping the LDs in their aim to replace us as the main anti-Tory party helps with any of that

Short deadline for applicants for the Tory candidacy:
This could well be on 20 July with Selby & Ainsty and Uxbridge & South Ruislip.
BTW could someone fix the title of this thread (Somerton, not Somerset)? now sorted

Frome itself used to have quite a strong Labour vote as well as one or two rural wards towards the coalfield like Coleford. I expect Labour's vote was concentrated there to a certain extent. TIL that there is a mining related Coleford in Somerset as well as Gloucestershire.

I don't recall many Plaid members even expressing the view that a Labour win is better than a Tory one in a given constituency, although to be fair I could have missed it

They did stand down in a few Welsh seats in 2019, of course. Though that "progressive alliance" experiment may not be repeated in Wales as elsewhere next time.

Doesn't John Harris live in Frome? We can expect some reports from him methinks.
Should Warburton be in line for some sort of honour for resigning in good time?

This could well be on 20 July with Selby & Ainsty and Uxbridge & South Ruislip. If Warburton is given his Stewardship today or early tomorrow, allowing the writ to be moved on Monday, then it's possible. I think Tuesday would be the absolutely latest date to move the writ.

Progressive politics is an illusion.
Each party has it's own agenda, and it will shaft any other party to try and get it.
Nick Clegg proved this in 2010.

Interesting that the Greens have almost immediately announced a candidate for this and the other by-election seats. A sign they're beginning to take them more seriously?

What else do you expect from the Labservative duopoly. Seriously, from the party who went into coalition with David Cameron? I am not a Liberal Democrat, I would always prefer the option to choose a Labour candidate. Whilst I wouldn't vote Conservative, I do not know why you think I would prefer to vote Lib Dem instead?
