As if she writes her own social media posts. Will be written by someone at Lib Dem HQ in Westminster.

An excruciatingly poor interview with the LD candidate now on Twitter! Thick as a really thick butcher's mince. Comically stupid. Actually, a bit worrying that this sort of person is selected for a seat they could actually win.. You mean "this sort of person" as opposed to the retiring MP?

She's actually done a fair bit of media before this and been absolutely fine, suspect it's more a case of it going from being something that might happen to being very real very quickly and the stress/exhaustion that comes along with it. Or? She really is the absolute and complete bloody plonker that she presents? Let's hope we see and hear a lot more from her. It is great entertainment and pops your neat little bubble!

It was issued yesterday and is on the South Somerset version of Somerset's electoral services page but for some reason is listed under "General Election – Somerton and Frome constituency". The deadline for nominations is Friday 4pm, the same as for the other two 20 July by-elections. Somerset putting in their own nomination for most fuck useless council website then! It has been noted…

I assume that the Conservatives must be selecting their candidate tonight, as the close of nominations is tomorrow.
Michael Crick is reporting that Somerset Councillors Faye Purbrick and Suria Aujla are/ were on the shortlist

Does it have an open mic comedy night? BTW, only one in seven dwarfs are happy. Lies, damned lies and statistics! you could've also highlighted that only 1 in 7 are grumpy

Lordy, that was a disaster of an interview - I thought that she was doing ok, then had a bit of a mind block (it happens), but then admitted she didn't know basic answers to obvious questions on local problems with housing, poverty and the cost of living. Truly awful for her.

Truly awful for her. Indeed. But it won't make any difference - she's bob on to win regardless.

The difference is that she will win not necessarily as overwhelmingly as otherwise, and will only last 16 months before being voted out again.

Labour have selected Neil Guild. He was the candidate in Taunton Deane in 2015.

I think Mr Disney (who I am always surprised to find died so long ago in 1966) would not really have been my sort of person and his company has morphed and morphed again into the absolute most sickening studio in America oozing vile trash with a sickly smile and tainting and spoiling everything it touches. So, no, not me. This is about good English, as ever.

Just listened to the interview.
Very poor. She was very nervous - her answers were vague even before the meltdown. Her knowledge of S & F appeared cursory - and I sensed no passion for the area (absolutely key for Lib Dems, more than other parties). Contrast that to the Green interviewee later: articulate, engaging and knowledgeable.
Early days - but the Lib Dems will need to up their game fast - or they will lose credibility in this by-election.

I would suggest you make a break for it as I hear the sounds of carriage wheels heading your way and what sounds worryingly like shrapnel being stuffed into a blunderbuss.

Recoverable in a GE campaign. Not in a by-election.
