Festus Akinbusoye, Police & Crime Commissioner for Bedfordshire, picked as Conservative candidate. Festus was the first parliamentary candidate I ever agented. I am delighted to hear this news.

So if he wins there would be a by-election for PCC. That would be an interesting one…

It does, but it has never come up since PCC by-elections are so rare. Also, PCC posts may be abolished in the near future (some have already been absorbed into Metro Mayor posts).

For South Yorkshire the decision is in the Autumn, if the PCC goes we'll have a Mayoral election next year

That would be an interesting one… (Source: The Electoral Commission) "Disqualifications that apply on election: 1.5 Members of the House of Commons, the Scottish Parliament, the National Assembly for Wales, the Northern Ireland Assembly or the European Parliament may stand for election as a Police and Crime Commissioner. However, if they are elected they must resign their seat before taking up the post of Police and Crime Commissioner" 1st prefs: Con 51,700 (42%), Lab 42,708 (35%), Lib Dem 15,983 (13%), Ind 8,279 (7%), Eng Dem 3,387 (3%)

In fact, at the time of the 2021 PCC elections there were three vacancies covered by the six-month rule: the Durham PCC had died and the Cambridgeshire and Cleveland PCCs had both resigned.

If she’s refusing to go until she receives an explanation about the lack of a peerage, Sunak should just remove the whip and let her stew on the opposition benches. The woman is a nutter - an embarrassment to ‘Team Boris’.

I presume she has no self awareness or she would realise that she hasnt been given a peerage is because she is utterly unsuitable and to do so would bring the House of Lords, the appointments system, and everyone in any way involved in to the most utter disrepute

Has she been involved in some massive scandal I am unaware of? The fact that you disagree with her politically is not a reason to block her.

Many worse people have been in the Lords and indeed there are almost certainly a lot worse there now in all sorts of ways. But this is getting a little undignified to put it mildly.

Had a lovely day canvassing today but if this drags on for months then the folk who live here are going to be SO sick of politicians and campaigners by the time we get to polling day 😂

Not sure that "I've never been involved in some massive scandal" is a qualification for the HoL in itself. Or we would have a MASSIVE House of Lords!

That was slightly scandalous?

The most scandalous thing Nadine Dorries has done is to talk absolute shit about the strong identity of her constituency at the hearing at Luton town hall before the first zombie review, then leave before the presentation of my proposals (which actually would have preserved her seat)

Labour certainly appear to be taking this byelection seriously. Peter Kyle's flip flops should be worth of 2% swing away from Labour.
