Didn't some recall petitions count overnight before and quite quickly declared that the member was booted out.

Do we get numbers for the people who spoil their signing sheets, or who deliberately chose not to sign them?

And maybe an assumption that others would sign it...
Perhaps people pay less attention to Covid rule breaches these days, in light of how daft some of the restrictions/measures were - whether you were anti restriction at the time or whether you're that way retrospectively.
It wouldn't surprise me if she stood.
Labour are going to have to chuck the kitchen sink at this... you'd expect they'd win it. Humza is a bit of a wet lettuce. Can't see him lasting long as FM/SNP leader.

Only 14.66%? I was expecting the percentage to exceed that for the Brecon & Radnorshire by-election (19.1%).
With an SNP majority of 5,230 over Labour, Labour on the recovery and the SNP in the doldrums following the fallout regarding Nicola Sturgeon's resignation, this should definitely be an easy Labour gain.

Not sure it'll be easy, the SNP trolls have been online for weeks attacking Kier Starmer and the "branch party" in relation to the expected byelection. The SNP reams have been door-knocking for weeks, as has Labour's. It could be anything from a small Labour gain, to a big swing to them. I susoect the latter, but I do not see the SNP hokding on.

I expect Labour to take it but a very low turnout.

I think this is the first ever petition that I wouldn’t have signed had I lived in the area - the offence just not serious enough to warrant a by-election for me, and I‘ll take a tiny smidgeon of satisfaction from the turnout being less than expected.
Labour really should walk this. I hope they do.

The pressure will be on for both Labour and the SNP here, with the Tories - for once - breathing a temporary sigh of relief.
I anticipate a Labour win, by a modest, if not insignificant, margin. Consider the 2021 by-election in Airdrie and Shotts, with Labour and the SNP swapping places. Turnout will likely be low.
Again - similar to the English by-elections - are the good people of Ruthurglen + Hamilton West convinced by a Keir Starmer-led Labour government increasingly moving rightwards on key policy? They may reject the SNP, granted, but are they prepared to come out in support of Labour in large numbers ...? I'm sceptical.
