I hope the threshold is not met. It would pain all the right people. There are times when you try a bit too hard Are we really saying that committed unionist TPFKAB doesn't look forward to an opportunity of giving the SNP a bloody nose? Er… The ? Formerly Known As ?

Nowhere in Gloucestershire is in the West Country. For a start, it's past Exeter so might as well be in the North. Gloucester and Bristol are essentially Midlands cities with more in common with London than Plymouth or Penzance. Have you heard the accents of the people that come out of the Bristol estates, that’s not Midlands definitely South West. The gentrified central area may be a bit of London, but by that measure you could say a lot of places were, and at that point it loses all meaning. I went to a conference in Bristol twenty years back and after an evening out found a lot of the local ‘youths’ were speaking in a sort of Mockney accent, no doubt picked from watching East Enders?

I predict that this is one of the thirty seats that Scots Labour will win at the next GE and not one of the 15 the SNP will hold

Seven signing places, which is quite a lot for what is a mostly urban constituency. Three in Rutherglen, one in Cambuslang in the outer Glasgow suburbia bit. One in Blantyre and two in Hamilton (which both appear to be just outside the constituency). Fairhill Library is (just) within the constituency. The Election Office is, obviously, the election office and next to Council HQ, but I would have thought Hillhouse Library and Community Centre would have been a better location for the electorate in this part of Hamilton.

For a bit of personal trivia, I was born in this seat although I’ve never lived in it. There was a dedicated maternity hospital in Rutherglen and a lot of expectant mothers in South Lanarkshire as well as the Southside area of Glasgow were sent there including mine It is now long closed More personal trivia - I was not actually born in the constituency (I don't think there were any maternity units in it at that time) but I lived in it for achunk of childhood and was at primary and secondary school in this half of Hamilton all the way through. I also worked in one of the signing places.

I'm also a Rutherglen Maternity Hospital wean. I think it was on the site of what is now the main Rutherglen GP centre, plus a care home? If that's the site, I pass it daily on the bus.

Does anyone have any intelligence on how the petition is going? Presumably the 10% threshold will be easily reached.

NB Regulation 124: "A person must not, before the end of the last day of the signing period for a petition, publish— (a)any statement relating to whether any person has signed the petition where that statement is (or might reasonably be taken to be) based on information given by that person; or (b)any forecast as to the result of the petition which is (or might reasonably be taken to be) based on information so given."

No different really to elections - but we have a variety of updates from those on the ground which are legally based on hunch and supposition.

They will probably ask their supporters to walk 500 miles and then 500 more to raise funds.
