Apparently it's kicking off outside the polling stations in Heston West with the Greens complaining (obviously in the nicest possible way) about the Indy leafleting outside the polling stations. EC guidance 3 Campaigning outside polling places 3.1 Campaigners should be allowed to put their messages to voters on polling day, including in public spaces outside polling places. Polling station staff and police officers should not seek to discourage or remove campaigners who are otherwise peacefully communicating with voters, as long as they are not within or impeding access to the grounds of the polling place. You should be careful, however, to ensure that your approach is proportionate and should recognise that groups of supporters may be perceived as intimidating by voters. 3.2 Campaigners should keep access to polling places and the pavements around polling places clear to allow voters to enter. The Presiding Officer is responsible for maintaining order in the polling place, and you may be asked to move by polling station staff or police officers if you are impeding access by voters to a polling place.

Reports I've heard from the independent campaign in Heston West is they expect the Lib Dems to win. Make of that what you will.

I said above we'd put a lot of effort into it, though from what I heard, that didn't necessarily mean we thought we would win

It's a good result for the Lib Dems from scratch, but the indies have nevertheless made charlies of themselves.

I think we'll be fairly pleased with that Given the territory, yes you should be. It isn't the sort of place where one's first thought would be "has Lib Dem potential". It's the most working-class in social composition of the 3 Heston wards; Heston East was actually a safe Tory ward for many years and is much more owner-occupied but has been Labour consistently now since the early 1990s. There is no discernible Lib Dem presence in neighbouring wards either. There has been in East Bedfont in the past, but that's quite a way away.

An easy Lib Dem victory is no surprise - I did wonder if they'd do it on 1st prefs, but ultimately predicted them just short, but they seem to have got their vote out very well. The interesting thing to see will be which other parties have crashed a bit, plus hopefully some comedy votes at the bottom - really hope the Libertarian beats the family party, but won't happen.

Apparently SNP turnout collapsed in their areas - plus the obvs bad weather over last few days made the PV share of the final total higher than it would have been (PVs seemed to be very strong for LDs)
