The nomination of Derek Stubbs, one of the Conservative candidates for Biddulph West, seems to have been withdrawn. Why? Is he supporting one of the Independent candidates in that by-election?

They all count on Thursday evening The Conservatives have lost one vote; I’ve had the dubious pleasure of sharing a Ward for 24 hours with a Biddulph resident who can’t believe his Tories have selected an “expletive deleted minority ethnic” candidate. Fortunately ENT were able to patch him up and discharge him swiftly.

I would have thought it more of an issue that the candidate lives in Stoke Hmm might be debatable as Biddulph does come under Stoke-on-Trent for postal purposes, so if he’s put his postal address correctly it would be 1 High Street, Stoke-on-Trent, postcode, which might display as “address in Stoke-on-Trent”. Perhaps Andrew’s Preview will enlighten us.

Three other candidates have done so but have "Address in Staffordshire Moorlands".

And a correction is in order, Ms Pragasam is in fact a she not a he. She may be a resident of Stoke as she stood in Bradeley and Chell Heath Ward at the 2019 Stoke City Council elections, but on the other hand, all the literature I can find online is published by Stoke North Conservatives.

Except that the mention of the district when the address is withheld is not based on the postal town, but on which district they are living in.

I think some people thought Pragasam was a he and then discovered she was indeed a she. It was only when I read Andrew's profiles I realised Charlie Smith was also a she. I do wish these candidates would leave their pronouns somewhere obvious

When I started off writing the Preview I was intending to make remarks about an all-male candidate list for the week, but that proved to be not so.

I do wish these candidates would leave their pronouns somewhere obvious Charli XCX. Common short version of Charlotte. No idea about Rathi……

Local Democracy Reporter at the Biddulph count has been told they'll count both district and county seat by midnight.
I've heard that one before ...
