Peter Halliday , Conservative councillor for St Johns ward on Tendring DC has resigned from the council and as its leader with a violent rant against his fellow Conservative councillors and the Conservative MP saying " I can't work with deceiving , lying individuals ".

Peter Halliday was most recently in the local press complaining about Cameron focusing on Mandela's death rather than the flooding in Tendring, so he's had a busy week falling out with more or less the entire Conservative Party. I think I shall have to have an excursion to Clacton some time soon.

THE leader of Tendring Council sensationally resigned from the council during an emotionally-charged rant at his fellow Tory councillors at a public meeting.

Peter Halliday revealed there was a rift among the district’s conservatives and lambasted a series of his Conservative colleagues – and Clacton MP Douglas Carswell.

Mr Halliday, who took over as leader of the authority last year, admitted to “going for” Conservative councillor Andy Wood at a private group meeting following a row.

Mr Halliday said he was upset at being accused of corruption for supporting the development of the Naze Education Centre at Walton by Delyth Miles, who is also chairman of the Clacton Conservative Association.

"Recently the Conservative Party locally have been behaving totally inappropriately,” he said.

“I can’t work with deceiving, lying individuals.”

He added that Mr Carswell has done "diddly-squat" for the constituency.

At a meeting of the council's cabinet today, he resigned both his position as leader of the council and as ward councillor for Clacton's St John's ward.

Deputy council leader Paul Honeywood has taken over as interim leader.

In a statement, the council's cabinet said: "The whole cabinet is upset and bitterly disappointed about the resignation of Peter Halliday.

"He was an excellent and inspirational leader who cares passionately about the district and all of its residents.

"It is a very sad day for the cabinet and even more so for Tendring."

I define a political council as one, where at least 50% of the members have been elected with the description of a political party or a community campaigning group, such as a Residents' Association.

The make-up of Lydney town council after 5 May 2011 was:
No Description 7, Independent 2, Lab 5, Green Party 1

The current make-up is:
No Description 4, Independent 2, Co-opted 3, Lab 3, Con 1, UKIP 1, Vacant 1

So only 6 out of 15 members in 2011 were "political" and only 5 current members are "political".

What about a town/parish council where nobody has political labels, but some/many/all of the members also stood in district or country elections with a political label?

By election on January 30th Amber Valley DC Heanor East ward reason not given but the missing councillor is Phil Hill , Labour .
There also appears to be a vacancy in Heanor West ward missing councillor is Bob Janes , Labour
