And still provides big vote shares for the Tories at local elections Well, yes. The kind of people that have deluded themselves to think that they're entirely self-made off their own hard work, and also that they are still part of the squeezed upper-middle classes.

It's certainly tougher to be "upper middle class" than it was. Gone are the days where your local high street solicitor or gp have 2 or 3 kids in elite schools. The housing these types aspire to is similarly much more expensive than a generation ago.

Live in the constituency, can't see the tories doing much campaigning, labour are strong in trafford.
No independent in the council or any rumored so should be a easy labour hold

Rather a lacklustre number of supporters with placards.

Green selection taking place on Sunday. Sorry to disappoint everyone, I think the placards are over in Merseyside for an action day this weekend.

Rather a lacklustre number of supporters with placards. Potentiality reflects the state of the local association.

The RefUK candidate is Paul Swansborough. As an independent he contested the Redditch constituency in 2010 then the council elections in 2012, then he joined Ukip and was elected to Redditch council in 2014, standing also for the county and parliamentary seats in 2017 before losing his seat in 2018 and not gaining another in 2019. He then he contested the Flixton ward on Trafford in 2021 for Ukip. Why he remained in Ukip later than most and only switched in the last year or so is unclear.

LE2019 saw UKIP appear to be resurgent in some way, with 15/21 candidates, a big rise on previous elections. (They've never won a seat nor come near, anywhere in the borough.) I overheard them, on the way out, talking about the need to change target ward. I don't know which one they'd been 'targeting' up until then.

Placard aficionados, take note: they've ventured as far as "outside the front of the constituency office".

Happy that placards are this forum's new obsession.

This is the constituency where I work on the days when I'm in the office. I'll be following developments with interest. The seat where I was born and raised, and first entered politics. Edit: and for those interested, the home seat of Ian McShane, Matthew Kelly, Nurse Gladys from Open All Hours, and for football fans also the home of David White and "The Urmston Makalele", Michael Johnson. Not forgetting: Babs from dinnerladies as she never let anyone forget that she was from Urmston.

Any longer a surname and you don't get a diamond of your own. (Probably)
