I wouldn't think so. There were two parliamentary by-elections on (Wed) 6th Feb 1952, were polls would have opened before the news and one held the day after on Thu 7th Feb at which a one Mr Denis Healey became the MP for Leeds south East. Unless the funeral is actually on the Thursday, I would guess they would probably go ahead, but campaigning may be very low key... at present, Labour has suspended all campaigning, and I'm sure other parties are the same.

We've been told that, not even delivering leaflets, certainly not canvassing

Same for the Green Party. All campaign activity suspended shortly after the announcement of the Queen's death. Several planned action days this weekend cancelled.

I had an English teacher called Mr Furze back in 2000-01. But I hadn't yet taken on the Foggy moniker then. welcome back. It's been a long time.. Thanks, but this might just prove to be a fleeting visit in exceptional circumstances. I signed up here having convinced myself it was just for the previous (abandoned) Boundary Review, then got caught up in arguments about the domestic and international political dramas of the following 5 years, which probably wasn't great for my health. Might chip in when the current review resumes but will continue to try to lie low aside from that. Good to see you're active around here again though.

Does anyone know whether that was the election where the count was at the polling station, and therefore expected relatively early? I think it was the one in Lancaster. Unfortutely I deleted the reply email so cannot be sure

I hope that Middleenglander updates his fantastic tables as I always like to the swings against the Tories. Sadly I can never work them out

Interestingly, three of the changes were in "split" wards. Arun: Barnham 2 Conservative, 1 Green in 2019, Cannock Chase: Green in 2019, Conservative in 2021 and Labour in 2022 whilst Hartlepool: Foggy Furze elected 2 Independent, 1 Conservative in 2021 and 1 Labour in 2022. In addition, Lancaster: Warton is a single member ward with a 1,708 electorate.
Such wards have a tendency to change hands more than anticipted.
