Does anyone know whether that was the election where the count was at the polling station, and therefore expected relatively early? I think so, yes. James

I had an English teacher called Mr Furze back in 2000-01. But I hadn't yet taken on the Foggy moniker then.

GreenElects have tweeted percentages for Barnham, but: a) don't give the actual vote figures b) their vote changes don't add up properly c) they include a figure for a LibDem candidate. So, hmmm.....

By the looks of it, Three Rivers still held the count for a parish election. Really it will have been a difficult call when the election is part way through whether to postpone the count. I don't think a local by election can be cancelled once called, except if a candidate dies, but the councils involved in next week should really consider holding the count the following week after the funeral. Hartlepool put this underneath the details of the winner, not sure whether they were anticipating getting criticism for proceeding so decided to be proactive: “The election continued as there is no legal provision to suspend a poll in the event the monarch passes during the hours of the election”. Their website report of the result says that a silence was held at the count at 10pm prior to commencing.

I suspect next weeks elections may well be postponed ? I wouldn't think so. There were two parliamentary by-elections on (Wed) 6th Feb 1952, where polls would have opened before the news and one held the day after on Thu 7th Feb at which a one Mr Denis Healey became the MP for Leeds south East.

Unless the funeral is actually on the Thursday, I would guess they would probably go ahead, but campaigning may be very low key...
