Harold Holt didn't drown, he suffered from amnesia and lived out the rest of his days in a quiet Melbourne cul-de-sac. Did he have good neighbours?

Going back very much further, my niece, who did her history doctorate on the Norman Conquest, is entirely certain that Harold survived the Battle of Hastings, but badly injured, and lived out his days at a nearby manor house.

"Hello, I'm compiling the Domesday book and I'll need details of all your pigs and barley and hang on...aren't you ex King Harold?"
"No! A lot of people do get us confused though"
"It's probably the arrow in the eye"
"Pure coincidence I assure you. Come in and have a Saxon ale, I mean some good calvados".

My niece also thinks the arrow in the eye isn't Harold.

My niece also thinks the arrow in the eye isn't Harold. She is almost certainly right there. The arrow in the eye thing is almost certainly a misreading of the tapestry.

Nick Begich, representative for the US House Alaska seat, vanished in 1972 during a flight heading across the state during an election campaign. The then House Majority Leader Hale Boggs was also on board and disappeared.
No wreckage or bodies ever found
