Croydon Central MP Gavin Barwell believes David Miliband was Labour's most impressive MP: "If it's true @dmiliband is resigning as an MP it's a loss for British politics & a massive blow for #Labour. He's their most impressive MP":
twitter.com/GavinBarwellMPWhereas I am convinced that IDS was by far the most impressive Conservative leader this century and it was a massive blow to the country and his party that he quit as leader.

From Steve Bell. Yes, well - he would, wouldn't he? ((C) M. Rice-Davies, 1963) Has Steve Bell ever been even remotely amusing?

I see news still refer to him as the MP for South Shields. I assume he didn't applied for resignation yet?

The House rose the day, or the day after, he made the announcement, so even if he has offered himself as a candidate/applicant for the Chiltern Hundreds, it'll take an extra few weeks for the job to be allocated

I thought you could get the Stewardship at any time; the problem is with moving the writ in recess.
Or is Miliband stringing out every last day he can for extra salary/pension entitlements?

The Chancellor can appoint him to the Manor of Northstead at any time whether the house is sitting or not. What they can't do is move the writ for the by-election until the House returns from recess.
He doesn't actually start his new job until September, so it is possible he will not resign immediately.

Will you be resigning from Labour over Trevor Maxfield then? Or are you just indulging in hyperbole and hypocrisy?

who the hell is Trevor Maxfield ? every organisation has people you would rather not deal with but at Villa I have no idea of Paul Lambert's political persuasion or not, at Sunderland their new manager did this blog.sfgate.com/soccer/files/2013/03/di_canio_salute.jpgI think as deputy Chair and someone whose family escaped the Nazi's Miliband was entitled to think that this was totally wrong for him.

who the hell is Trevor Maxfield ? IIRC a former BNP organizer who left them to join a Darwen local party and then became a Labour councillor in 2012.

Did Maxfield ever relent over his time in the BNP ?

I'm not sure that nazi is the appropriate term. Fascist, possibly.

there are differences I would agree but Mussolini who Di Canio adores was very quick to get into bed with Hitler. His salute was it a fascist or NAzi one, very difficult to tell the difference.

A fascist is a fascist is a fascist.
Ironic, I know, given Gertude Stein's politics, but whateversky.
