The deceased councillor was elected in 2019 (meaning this seat will be contested again next year) having stood unsuccessfully as an independent in 2016 and 2015. The Labour candidate stood here in May and the Lib Dem in the last 3 elections. The independent elected this year and in 2018 was Kerry Smith – the UKIP councillor elected in 2014 who went on to gain some notoriety after being forced to step down as a parliamentary candidate. He has also been county councillor for the division that contains this ward since 2013 (first as UKIP and then as an independent).

Doddington and Wimblington in Fenland hasn't had a contested election on current boundaries. On the 2003-2011 boundaries, Doddington was only contested in 2011 and Wimblington was uncontested that year.

PCSO Nice is either the Lib Dem candidate, or related to him, I imagine. We await the applications from Brady and Nice to join the forum, seeing that they found witnessing the ballot counting a "pleasurable" experience!
