Starmer would probably rather he go down for a long period, and so didn't hang around in parliament.

If anything, a by-election with this sort of majority might be ideal for Starmer. Unlikely to lose the seat, craft the narrative about discipline or whatever, and suffer almost no impact to the size of the PLP. There's nothing to be gained from trying to skirt it. Would you not spare a thought for the party staffers that have to go to Runcorn? "Top Labour spokesman puts himself down for Daresbury"

Just to point out that the CPS hasn't been leaned upon by anybody, as far as we know. But if they have been would we know about it? There seems to be a great deal of naivety in this conversation about how the world works. The idea that governments never subtly interfere in matters that they aren't supposed to is quite fanciful.

I accept that much is true. But the hypothetical scenario we are discussing would be very much a high risk, low reward one.

I will be shocked if Amesbury even ends up in recall territory and so will Lord Timpson and David Gauke.
If indeed he does not, then he will sit without the whip in Parliament, and at some point in the coming four years be readmitted to the fold.

Sunak at PMQs:
'Today is my last appearance at PMQs and I am happy to confirm reports that I will now be spending more time in the greatest place on Earth. Where the scenery is indeed worthy of a movie set and everybody is a character - that's right, if anyone needs me I will be in Yorkshire!'

Sunak's casework is unlikely to include the sort of annoyances of people whose benefits have been stopped or who hold UK passports and have been banged up in their own country. And even if it does, civil servants will respond promptly and favourably to the entreaties his assistants write.
And he has just had a swimming pool installed.

The alleged victim of the alleged assault has already been interviewed and photographed by the Daily Mail, and he says that he has spoken to the police. It doesn’t seem to be clear whether he wants to take the matter further or not; meanwhile there has still not been any report saying that the police have “arrested a 55-year-old man on suspicion of assault”, so maybe he doesn’t want to.

It would be quite classy to seek to have the matter dropped
By which I mean, that's what I would do.

Well at present there are no criminal charges and so no formal victim in that sense.

Well, where the media would get the name? The only possible source would be the victim himself and that's up to him to volunteer the information.

That in fact was the entire point of the story. The local sub station had to be upgraded to cope with the climaqte change boggling increase in local demand.

I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of Sunak being in the Shadow Cabinet after next week, and after his bravura response to Reeves.
