With all these changes it looks that there will be some competition for the new seats. Why remove him now but wait until the boundary review finishes its work and remove him then. On the initial proposals I believe he’s being merged with Jo Churchill’s Bury St Edmunds seat, which would suggest one would have to be looking elsewhere. On the numbers, Hancock has slightly more of a claim to the merged seat, but Churchill has the best claim to North Suffolk and ought to be happy with that, because it's likely one of the safest Tory seats in the country.

If Hancock resigns, I wonder if the Lib Dems will try to do well in his seat but his seat voted Leave by a lot and the LDs got third in this constituency.

I do wonder however Sajid Javid will cope without the extensive list of friends and connections made at University. Complex issues like track and trace may require some innovative ideas like actually doing his job properly. I get the feeling that Javid would be handy in a fight at a pub. Not least because he'd clearly get the round in afterwards.

I did not know that we had an MP called Apsana Begum, and to discover this causes me great amusement. The Begum family are going through a bad run of luck are they not? It's not exactly a family name

It's not exactly a family name It's somelanguageorother for "woman". In Bangladeshi society it’s a sign of higher social status, sort of an equivalent of Lady or Dame. In Bengali tradition it’s traditionally attached to the slightly distant relatives (think Zara Tindall) of Royal families.

In Bengali tradition it’s traditionally attached to the slightly distant relatives (think Zara Tindall) of Royal families. I believe it is female equivalent of Bey or Beg in Turkic languages (which tends to be spelt "Baig" in transliteration of modern Urdu and Bengali) and came into the sub-continent via Islamic invasions. Similar to Khan (male) and Khanom (female). When I worked with a lot of Benagli clients they were nearly all either Miah or Bibi which as I understand it mean Mr and Mrs/Miss respectively.

I'm just imagining George Galloway + campaign team meeting up with Guido and his mates for a cuppa and a chat about future plans. Lack of thunder bolts all round seems like one of those things smartarse atheists like to use as evidence of non-existence of God.

Is it likely that Claudia Webbe and Apsana Begum could both be forced from their MP positions this year? Two more by-elections would be interesting indeed.

Because, like all socialist ideas, it would work, its just never been tried properly There is an academic paper on All Women Shortlists, co-written by someone called Mona Krook*.
* I kid you not.

While Lab are likely to hold Leicester East, the changes in the vote share amongs the Indian community would be interesting to look at.

Interesting in whether Lab would rebound (and therefore the fall was because of a Pro-Pakistani candidate & Leadership) or not (suggesting something deeper which would be alarming to Lab in places Like Brent , Ealing & Harrow)
