Has resigned the whip but not his seat. Planning on standing down at next election.

I take it you are referring to the most recent Labour MP?? Yes, a genuine scandal - but not because of anything she did RIP Fiona. The cases of Fiona Jones and Sally Clark have certain similarities and a tragic end. Although of course what Sally Clark was wrongly found guilty of was somewhat more serious.

think we may be looking at a Newark one very soon if Mercer has been caught out with cash for Questions, he has no choice. And what an interesting one it could be and UKIP looking to win it, but a lot of labour votes as well ? What were the council election results there, I am guessing Labour did well as Nottinghamshire was a poor performing council for UKIP ? Approx vote shares for divisions making up Newark parliamentary seat Con 42 Lab 20 UKIP 15 LD 13 Ind 10 Note one division had only Con and Lab candidates

not sure because there is potential there unlike Eastleigh to have a real good increase in the labour share.

The potential for a good increase in the Labour share was there a month ago and failed to materialise .

Its fair to say that South Suffolk isn't UKIP's best area in the county, but there could be potential there - particularly we ought to be able to do well in Sudbury/Great Cornard, judging by socialy similar towns nearby. Disappointingly we didn't have candidates there in May

Having a couple of "scandal" byelections on the same day could skew the results...

Has the potential to be Labour's 31st seat. Only the second time Plaid have needed to defend a seat, the other being Ceredigion in Feb 2000. Only the third Assembly by-election after Swansea East in 2000 and Bleanua Gwent in 2006
