Any question as to whether or not Rand Paul will run for President is now as good as gone. The one major problem that he faced was that Kentucky law prevents a candidate appearing on the same ballot twice, which would prevent him for running for President and for re-election to the Senate. There had been a move to change the law and it passed the GOP controlled Kentucky Senate last year but was blocked in the Democratic controlled Kentucky House of Representatives. With the Democrats retaining the House last November the Paul campaign moved onto plan B and this has had more success. Yesterday the Kentucky GOP Executive Committee voted unanimously to scrap the Presidential primary scheduled for next May and replace it with a Presidential caucus in March. This will need formal approval from the Kentucky GOP State Central Committee at its annual meeting in August but this now seems certain. This will allow Paul to run in both the Presidential caucus in March and the Senate primary in May.
This isn't a complete end to his problems as in the event of him winning the nomination he still won't be able to appear on the general election ballot in Kentucky for both races, that though is a problem for another day.

Rick Santorum happily has been rendered unelectable by a superb juvenile gay joke. No. He was already unelectable before that.

Rand Paul to launch today. Also the run off in Chicago which Rahm Emanuel should win easily.
Paul's election logo looks like the Tinder logo.

They'd have been better off picking her in 2008.

They'd have been better off picking her in 2008. I am genuinely struggling to see why. Obama may have been a disappointment to many on the liberal (in US terms) wing of the Democratic Party but I doubt that many who voted for him over Clinton regret that they didn't chose an amoral, warmongering, corporatist.

As I've said before I am lost by why she is 1/4 favourite for the nomination. The Democrats go for younger candidates than the Republicans and she'd be the same age as Reagan when he was elected in 1980. I won't get into ideological battles but he was past it during the latter part of his second term.

As I've said before I am lost by why she is 1/4 favourite for the nomination. Have you seen the polls? She gets 60%+ even with a multiplicity of other names. Contrast that with the GOP field where there are a mass of names all on around the same level, and no-one gets more than 20%.

I hold no brief for her, but people of that age today tend to be less physically and mentally aged than people of that age 30 years ago. If she loses the Democratic nomination (it's possible, but unlikely for the reason David Boothroyd pointed out), it will be because of her politics, not her age.

Democratic primary voters will therefore have the opportunity of voting for a candidate that possesses both principles and integrity.

It'll be interesting to see if it flushes out any Dems- I can certainly see him attracting activists.

Mike Huckabee just announced his candidacy. Toe-curling speech.
Dr Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina also announced over the weekend.
