Truly, truly awful. Bet that hall was half empty. If it wasn't at the beginning it probably was by the end.... I thought the C-Span video was quite standard, really. I'm sure that it, and Huckabee, would be appealing to a significant minority. Huckabee gives the appearance of being one of the most natural people at the higher levels of US politics. He is personable. I never liked the platform he stood on, and I felt that his show on Fox News was second only to the execrable Fox & Friends in sheer awfulness, but I nevertheless, through watching more episodes of the "Huckabee" show than i really wanted on Fox News, got to like the man himself. Huckabee is a polished performer. He reminds me of the old saying that the most important attribute you can possess in politics is sincerity - if you can fake that, you've got it made. It's difficult for us in the UK to judge Huckabee because he plugs right into a religious side of the US that is almost wholly absent from UK political life. The two main reasons why I would not want to see Huckabee as the GOP candidate are his illiberal social policies and the fact that he's not likely to prove to be the most effective candidate to challenge Hillary successfully. But he does have some of the folksy charm that Reagan had, which worked electorally very well both in and beyond middle America.

His record as governor is going to come under the spotlight a lot more than it did last time. He may struggle with that.

Graham isn't really running for President. He is running so that he has a platform to attack Rand Paul's foreign policy as frequently as possible. Sadly the GOP war hawks have been emboldened by President Obama having pursued policies in the Middle East so bloody ridiculous that one can almost forgive the brain dead conspiracy theorists who think he is secretly on the side of Islamist terrorists.

Graham as tipped as a tea party target only a few years ago. Amazing how things change.

He is the standard bearer of the neo-cons and other foreign policy hawks. The religious right are also deeply suspicious of him for obvious reasons.

I just thought people from South Carolina spoke like that.

This is a rare moment. I find myself agreeing with Huckabee. These were actions committed by a 14 year old boy. The facts are that the majority of young people who commit sexually abusive or inappropriate behaviour do not go on to become adult sex offenders, especially if they receive appropriate support at the time. They should be allowed to move on and put the actions behind them once they have been dealt with. The family here seem to have acted entirely appropriately - they did not disown their son or overreact, neither did they down play his actions. They sought support for both him and his victims, what more could be asked for?

George Pataki adds his name to the mix. I don't see what he brings to the GOP table, is this a VP or cabinet bid?

Martin O'Malley to announce this weekend. He really needs to be getting more publicity than Sanders (and hope for Hillary to implode).
