Highland Council’s livestream is running, a result “soon” according to their Twitter.

I guess we know where the Independent votes went in this case then At the last election each voter had three votes and there was only one candidate for each of the Con, SNP and Lab parties. So I guess a lot of voters used their left over votes on the Inds, as a relatively benign choice. With only one vote this time party loyalties have come to the fore. No, the "S" in STV stands for Single.

The Independent Councillor Barr used to be a Tory, so I guess his 990 first preferences mostly went Tory

Quite so Andrew.
I was ever '... a snapper-up of unconsidered trifles ...'.
Now that you've moved to the north of England you should realise that trifles are never unconsidered.
Thus, I am a perfect fit to the region.

In that case "perfect fit" may not be quite the most apt expression.

I note that nobody here predicted the actual result in TH - so what was maybe behind such a big swing and which issues did Aspire campaign on?

I note that nobody here predicted the actual result in TH - so what was maybe behind such a big swing and which issues did Aspire campaign on? I did think of entering the prediction competition this week (didn't get round to it) but had decided that I would predict the Aspire win, to be contrarian as much as anything. He was the previous councillor for the ward, lost his seat by a whisker as an independent running against Labour. I've never been convinced that the electorate would care about him living with his parents in Redbridge, and I didn't think the corruption allegations stuck to him personally. Labour are generally off the boil at the moment, and seem vulnerable to a concerted campaign anywhere there is an obvious challenger, and Aspire was the only other real game in town. I'd hoped to be wrong....

Well done everyone up there.

I'd hoped to be wrong.... I think we all had similar thoughts, but collectively thought that Labour would hang on somehow, because an Aspire win in the end was unthinkable. Because we are not contrarian. Maybe we need a contrarian to join us...

They seem to be getting reorganised up there. Not before time. Can they send advice to the Welsh party please?
