Indeed, and the record there (in Cornwall possibly?) was well below 20%. Though tbh I am thinking here about simple 3-way contests such as the one you cited. What was the winning percentage in Spennymoor (by-election) from a couple of years ago? Think it was under 20%. 19% Result on this thread page.

Three Rivers, Northwick 2008 Malcolm Butwick Con 284 33.7% Len Tippen Lab 282 33.5% Jeremy Asquith LD 276 32.8% (Plaid got 34.4% in this election) Of course there will be plenty with more than three candidates where the winning percentage will be much lowerIndeed, and the record there (in Cornwall possibly?) was well below 20%. Though tbh I am thinking here about simple 3-way contests such as the one you cited. There was indeed a local election result in which the winning candidate got less than 20%. It was in Cornwall (I don't remember off-hand which ward) but I think it was only just below 20%, not "well below".

What was the winning percentage in Spennymoor (by-election) from a couple of years ago? Think it was under 20%. 19% Result on this thread page. That one says it was in Durham: Ian GELDARD (Independent) 489 (18.7%) Colin NELSON (Labour Party) 420 (16.1%) Martin Thomas Brian JONES (LD) 373 (14.3%) Billy McALOON (Independent) 358 (13.7%) Pete MOLLOY (Independent) 332 (12.7%) Bob PURVIS (UKIP) 281 (10.8%) Ronald Edward HIGHLEY (Ind) 221 (8.5%) James Langford COSSLETT (Con) 137 (5.2%) ...which confuses me because I remember it being in Cornwall. Perhaps there have been two results with the winner under 20%? Unless I am misunderrememberating about Cornwall.

Knew there had been at least one there, though not as much below 20% as I had thought.
