Polling today in two wards of the Corporation of London. Tim Hailes, standing for re-election as Alderman in Bassishaw ward, has some high ranking support:
His challenger Ian Bishop-Laggett appears to be a Conservative Party member from Enfield.

It's King's Hedges, not King's Head. I suspect pints may have been consumed by you at the latter. Not sure if there is even a King's Head pub in Cambridge, let alone a ward. I certainly don't remember one. The last time I went to Cambridge I canvassed for the general election there, so I played a small part in the Labour gain in 2015. I was canvassing in Kings Hedges ward which is one of the most consistently strong Labour has in the city. I did the first canvass of King's Hedges ward in the 1992 election, which was the previous occasion on which Labour gained Cambridge. Unfortunately John Major called the election for out of term time so I had to return home for the rest of the campaign. I thought there might have been a King's Head pub on the King Street run at one stage.

I can't guarantee this is 100% correct but the current Cambridge Brew House was previously called the King's Arms. There was also a previous pub called the Royal Arms which was demolished in 1970, but then the site was redeveloped. Full, confused history is here : pintsandpubs.wordpress.com/tag/cambridge-brew-house/
The Royal Arms of George III are included in the City Arms of Cambridge...

I can't speak for all of that history of the Brew House, but it seems mostly accurate - I have moderately fond memories of the Bun Shop in the mid-2000s and I think I may have visited the Jolly Scholar once.
The King's Head in Sawston is entirely forgettable. The Queen's Head in Newton, on the other hand, is extremely good - one of only a handful of pubs to have been in every edition of the Good Beer Guide.
Incidentally, I seem to remember I briefly met Barnaby when he came to King's Hedges.

I hate council twitter feeds that think giving the votes for one of the candidates only constitutes a 'result'

SNP unsurprisingly gained North East ward in Dundee, giving them back their majority they lost in 2017 and becoming the only single party majority council in Scotland.

Geldard's winning score was 18.7%, and I can't remember seeing a more fragmented result than that. He was top of the Labour slate here in 2017.

Northumberland, Holywell is reported as a Labour hold, no figures yet.
Newcastle-under-Lyme, Maer and Whitmore was a Conservative hold: C 629 LD 97
I suspect all the other by-elections will count in the morning.

Regarding the local by-elections in areas which aren't holding overall council elections, are any of the councils in a position where the by-election result could affect control of the council?
