I have never heard of a suspension of a whip for an offence like that before. Maybe somebody here has?

So if he hadn’t snored would it have been ok?

I never heard of a suspension of a whip for an offence like that before. Maybe somebody here has? I had a colleague on Gateshead Council who suffered from narcolepsy. He didn't snore, however.
I myself am prone to falling asleep easily. When I was chairing the housing committee, I was occasionally prodded by the officer next to me!

I have never heard of a suspension of a whip for an offence like that before. Maybe somebody here has? I think it's the Rotherham bit which makes it more significant. I remember several councillors having a snooze during full council, especially some of the more elderly ones but I don't remember snoring.

Looking him up he has some extra weight on him, from experience I know that can cause more tiredness than should be normal

In some Councils there is a 'book' run on the length of the Leader of Council's budget speech when time limits do not apply. Watching the clock is one way of keeping awake when some Leaders speak for more than five minutes.

Watching the clock is one way of keeping awake when some Leaders speak for more than five minutes. Sir Albert Bore often went on and on for about an hour for the budget speech, it seemed more like three and to be fair, Albert isn't a bad speaker. But five minutes would have been long enough for Cllr Birbeck to doze off.

Sir Albert Bore often went on and on for about an hour for the budget speech, it seemed more like three and to be fair, Albert isn't a bad speaker. But five minutes would have been long enough for Cllr Birbeck to doze off. I was surprised at the nonsense around the Budget speech on my own council, a mere district albeit of a city that thought itself a little (!) above other places. The leader was given a draft speech prepared by the Treasurer. My predecessor, a normally loquacious Welsh man, pretty much followed it. I took a few bits from that and did my own. In the period in which he was leader but parliamentary candidate while I did a fair bit of the heavy stuff our opposition attempted to make an issue of who delivered the set piece. I suppose, as in any collection of politicians, playing on vanity and ego might have some purchase. With elections every year (counting the county elections) the speech tended to have a fairly partisan edge which the officer text diminished. And with an asset-rich council with significant revenue sources beyond the rates/council tax and government grants it was quite an interesting exercise.

So proving her correct? Going by that, Murray might not be a Tory for much longer anyway.

Not sure where they've got 2 Muslim councillors from. None of the names seems obviously Muslim, and Cllr Sardiwal is definitely Hindu

The word Kapo is not really appropriate there. JVL may be a horrible bunch of antisemitism-enablers, but they are not in favour of beating up or killing Jews in concentration camps as far as I'm aware. Of course the ethnicity or the religion of the councillors is of no importance whatsoever.
Seeing that Labour Party policy is in favour of a ceasefire in Gaza, I can only presume that it was the terms of such a ceasefire, or other associated forms of words, would be the cause of suspension. Labour Groups will not, contrary to JVL's assertion, be suspending people just for calling for a ceasefire. There must be more to it.
