I suspect most of his opponents wouldn't actually accept the concept of 'sin' as designated by the Christian church, and I was wondering also what Woden's view was on the idea?

I'm just off to see a rare stage outing for Miles Malleson's play "Yours Unfaithfully" at the Jermyn Street Theatre.

'Sin' is a fictitious concept. So are rights. So is 'progress' So is fairness So is socialism No, they all apply to real situations and real legal processes. 'Sin' appears only in works of fiction.

People need to decide if they want to be a preacher or a councillor, and pick one.

People need to decide if they want to be a preacher or a councillor, and pick one. No, I don't think so: there should not be a religious test (in any direction or level of intensity) to hold public office in this country. But if people in public office wish to express views regarded as extreme by the social mainstream, they should not be surprised when there are consequences for doing so.

Well, I wasn't proposing a test either way, just expressing my opinion that elected representatives should keep their religious views to themselves.

We're not going back to being ruled by scroungers who live off the work of others, by claiming to be a representative of a God.

You’re confusing religion with socialism. But the Conservative councillor is not "socialism" - the issues look about the Conservative party, and religion.

Socialists don't have issues with endemic child abuse or fraud. Debatable If a particular socialist does, he likely learnt it off the experts in the matter (primarily, but not exclusively, the Catholic Church).

The guy has a right to his religious views.
He should have a right to express them (as long as they don't extend to advocating violence or discrimination).
His party has a right to deselect him if so minded.
His electors have a right to vote, or not to vote, for him if the particular issue is of interest to them.
His position on the school body depends on what the rules are.
