Is there any rule about the candidate having to be human? There are probably more seals than humans living on Bryher, so maybe it's their turn... That is implied ipso facto by the mechanics of local government law. Didn't somebody put their cat forward at the last general election?

There was one defeated candidate on the largest island, St Mary's. I'm guessing he could put himself forward for the Bryher vacancy if still keen. There's no special rule about having to live in the ward (island) you are representing is there? Is there any rule about the candidate having to be human? There are probably more seals than humans living on Bryher, so maybe it's their turn... There was that candidate in Aberdeen a few years back which turned out to be a mannequin. That didn't end well for anyone involved, including the mannequin.

Of course even if you could argue that an animal was not excluded from standing, they would have to be at least 18 years old, which would rule out many.

Do we know the cause of the Lea Bridge vacancy? Resignation of Yemi Osho. No explanation of why but her social media doesn't have anything outlining a political disagreement. She is a nurse so it may be pressure of work.

Here’s a list of County Councillors elected as Members of the Senedd on 6 May, unknown at present if some will double job for a year or resign as a councillor Councillors Fox and Fychan have said they will carry on for a year. Laura Jones who succeeded to her seat last June, and was re-elected this month, is still a Monmouthshire councillor. I would be surprised if many step down.

Peter Black AM (Lib Dem, Wales South West 1999 - 2016) became an AM at the first elections at and the same time was elected to Swansea council (a position he still holds today) therefore there is nothing to stop yourself being a councillor and Member of the Senedd at all. I do know that if Emily had been elected, she would have stood down and caused a by-election in her Llangors ward but that is now a moot subject.

However a disqaulification would kick in if they stood again as a councillor or if they are elected to the Senedd in a mid term by-election

Another by-election in Hobbayne ward on Ealing. Lewis Cox has stood down having fallen out with the council leadership. The council and local Labour party websites haven't yet been amended.

Cox is a diehard Corbynite - his Twitter bio refers to himself as "1/3 of @el4jc" which is to say 'Ealing Labour for Corbyn'. This would have made things difficult as the Ealing Labour group is pretty solidly anti-Corbynite. His resignation letter says he couldn't possibly support either Julian Bell or Peter Mason (both of whom are solid Progress supporters). The Corbynites briefly captured Ealing Central and Ealing North CLPs but couldn't get any sitting councillors deselected before 2018 and they have lost control since.
