So no vacancy at present but he has to attend another Standards hearing. The Standards Commission for Scotland has disqualified the councillor for 14 months at a fresh hearing after the original 17-month ban was overturned in February by a sheriff on the grounds that the first should not have taken place without Mr Mack, who claimed to be self-isolating, being present. On delivering the outcome of the fresh hearing, panel chair Paul Walker said "Mack had failed to engage with the hearing process" [...] link

The original 17-month ban would have allowed him to stand in the all up elections in 2022, but a 14-month ban starting now will not allow him to.

But I played my Civil Servant get-out-of-standing card.

There seem to have been two Liberal Democrat resignations from Somerset West and Taunton council:
* Peter Pilkington (Old Cleeve and District ward) for family issues * Philip Stone (North Curry and Ruishton ward) who objects to the decision not to move to the committee system, and to some recent planning decisions.

This has cost the Liberal Democrats overall control of Somerset West & Taunton but that point will likely be rendered moot with the local government reorganisation in Somerset.

They will almost certainly hold at least 1 of the 2 by elections, if held. The other one could be interesting. It won’t, at the moment, cost them control because there is no alternative administration. I’m not sure if there’s more to come though because the group is in chaos.

Does the control of any council(s) depend on the results of any deferred elections? No. There are only four: Kent, Elham Valley Norfolk, Sewell Norwich, Sewell Tandridge, Felcourt Only in Tandridge does the council not have a controlling group with a large majority.

The Wiltshire PCC by-election will be on 19th August. It appears that the RO has to wait two months to see if Seed will sign his declaration of acceptance of office, and once the deadline expires the by-election then has to be held within 35 working days. www.wiltshire.gov.uk/news/pcc-election-update
