The Wiltshire PCC by-election will be on 19th August. It appears that the RO has to wait two months to see if Seed will sign his declaration of acceptance of office, and once the deadline expires the by-election then has to be held within 35 working days. www.wiltshire.gov.uk/news/pcc-election-updateAre they going for the record for low turnout? Sounds like the perfect date to do this if they are really going for it. Just need Georgia-style polling stations with several hours queuing time, polling stations hidden in disused warehouses and postal votes requiring you to send your passport/driving licence in the envelope to prove ID.

Or has the date been fixed already? I am thinking that the winning candidate could sign the declaration of acceptance of office, and then immediately resign, thereby getting rid of the need to wait an extra two months.

Whilst it is disappointing that an opposition party leaflets like this, please don’t be holier-than-thou. Labour have done this and I suspect so has every party.

Are there going to be any byelections before June 10? Doesn't look like it. In addition to the dates already on this thread, the dates that are set that I can find are: 17/6: Kent CC, Elham Valley Mid Devon, Upper Culm Tandridge, Fellbridge 24/6: Chichester, Chichester East

Assuming they can get anyone to stand. I suspect that the odds are that no one will. There was one defeated candidate on the largest island, St Mary's. I'm guessing he could put himself forward for the Bryher vacancy if still keen. There's no special rule about having to live in the ward (island) you are representing is there?

Finding someone to do it on Bryher is obviously an issue. The previous councillor had wanted to retire in both 2013 and 2017 but didn’t because no one else wanted to do it on either occasion. She lives partly on Bryher and partly in Cornwall.

I'm guessing not many, and less than that, but actual numbers would be fascinating.

The man is the most insufferable, rule following, common sense ignoring pedant in the history of local government. He would fit right in on this forum then.

Turnout for the 2014 West Midlands PCC byelection - also held in August - barely reached 10%.

There's no special rule about having to live in the ward (island) you are representing is there? Is there any rule about the candidate having to be human? There are probably more seals than humans living on Bryher, so maybe it's their turn...
