Of course even if you could argue that an animal was not excluded from standing, they would have to be at least 18 years old, which would rule out many. Might not rule out an elephant, who would probably be more intelligent than many candidates.

Is this not slightly surprising? It is a keenly contested council overall.

Labour has a solid majority on the council. Aber Valley has been a good Plaid Cymru area for the past 15 years. The full council election is due in a year's time. So not bothering may have seemed a reasonable response, especially given the main CLP activists will likely have been exhausted by the Senedd election campaign.

Might not rule out an elephant, who would probably be more intelligent than many candidates. And then "the elephant in the room" which we hear so many parties not consulting would be present which would be useful for them! And of course I suspect quite a lot of elephants are commonwealth citizens. ---- Also as regards the original point - it depends presumably whether "dog years" rather than human years etc. count - presumably as they are dogs....

I assumed this although it's still a bit surprising. Labour in Caerphilly wouldn't normally give Plaid Cymru so much as the skin off their turds.

Old Cleeve is the 17th and North Curry and Ruishton is on 24th. I wonder why they are not on the same day? Could there be a COVID reason or the Lib Dem’s want to be able to focus on them separately? These will be the 4th and 5th by elections to the council since its formation in 2019. Candidates for Old Cleeve are LD/Con/ ND

Sorry to report the loss of a dear friend and colleague. Elmbridge Borough Councillor Dorothy Mitchell (Cons, Cobham & Downside) has died. www.esherwalton.com/news/cllr-dorothy-mitchell-dies-after-illness She represented the ward from 1983 to 2004 and again since 2010, with a period as Surrey County Councillor for Cobham (2001-09). Her term was due to end in 2023. The by-election for this seat has been fixed for 1 July.

I concur with your list subject to two additions: North East Lincolnshire, Heneage (1st July) and Enfield, Bush Hill Park (pending).
Sandwell, Tividale had fallen off my list, thanks for remembering that one.

My those eulogies are a bit OTT. From my time on Leicester City council I would describe him as unremarkable and adequate.

Is this the one who went Tory at the last GE in a strop about Claudia Webbe?

There is a Notice of Election for Bridge ward of Newark and Sherwood for 1 July - it says the election is for one councillor only, but I suspect that may be an error
