There is the overriding fact that this government have been living off fumes for years and probably find something like boundary change legislation about as important as regulations concerning shoe polish. If they've mucked up the shoe polish regulations they should be booted out. well they won’t last

But seriously though, getting a new set of boundaries has been a priority for the Conservative government for years. No way it’s going to be let slip. It will be enacted in time for the next general election. Even if they have actually messed up and forgotten the timetable (or whatever), they do have the political will to make sure it’s done (if necessary, by ad-hoc primary legislation) rather than letting it go by default.

I mean of course it was done. Like it was ever not going to have been done.

Getting the right set of boundaries has been a priority. Ironically the cancellations and legislative tweaks have given us far better boundaries than we could have, but the reason for all of this was to get an imagined 'shire bonus' of seats which now is now less opportunistic for them.

Too many hysterical people spending too much of their lives indulging in Twitter hysteria. Go for a walk and get a life. Needless to say, that applies to more than just this rather narrow topic. Even so, that so many could readily believe the government had messed this up tells its own story - though you might not want to admit this.

I actually think it says more about the people who believe it than the government itself. Mainly because this sort of procedure is the kind of formality that it’s left to civil servants to administer (as are most things in government for that matter). There are many reasons to fault this government, but failing to perform simple administrative tasks is not actually one of them. Most of the things that are “not working” to use the chosen phrase are a result of long-term trends, lack of strategic thinking, and an inability for the state to accept reform. They’re not down to some middle-ranking minister forgetting which way up to hold a pen.

The government's reputation is in the bin, and even administrative processes are suspected to be governmental cock-ups. The "people who believe it" are the majority of the country. (In a general sense - this specific issue is obviously of interest only to a minority).

When you see so much of the country failing, you can point the fingers anywhere but ultimately the Government is responsible for most of it. I was going to say "in charge", though they're really just "in power". It feels like they can't do anything right because they haven't been doing anything right for years.

Not even "in power", really; in most respects they are merely "in office". They've got the red boxes and the ministerial cars and that's about it.

Norman Lamont, July 1993 "We give the impression of being in office but not in power!" Another reason I think we are heading for a 1997 style swing, but the boundaries (either old or new) will make that swing have a much different result (Lab hung Parliament to tiny Labour majority)

Have we established if the new constituency boundary orders have been submitted, will be submitted, paused or cancelled?

I am sure that if DLUHC says they have been submitted to the Privy Council, they have been. There has been no Council meeting to approve them and won't be this week as the King is in Kenya.

I am sure that if DLUHC says they have been submitted to the Privy Council, they have been. There has been no Council meeting to approve them and won't be this week as the King is in Kenya. The meeting alternates between the second and third Wednesday of each month, each alternate month, so the October meeting was held on the second Wednesday, therefore the November meeting will be held on the third Wednesday November 15th.
