Very few seats changes in most of england - I'm glad I'm not going to have to redo many notional results. Blackley & Middleton South is a thing I'm sure we could all do without..

All the English constituencies with changes (names or boundaries) since the last proposals are flagged in the rightmost column here.

Thank goodness I wrote to the BCE about this unfairness (every other English city, even Wells, was included in the constituency name or was the constituency name).

Looks like the parties were absolutely right to get selecting on the revised proposals. I can't see any seat changes so far where the changes are big enough to change the political dynamics of the seats, or how contested they'd be by the various parties. Southend perhaps, and possibly Wimbledon?
But those name changes. We got 1 of the 2 changes we wanted in MK (Milton Keynes Central and we really didn't want Central Milton Keynes which is the specific district) but Buckingham and Bletchley stays - that name won't survive the next review as MK grows and Buckingham doesn't.
But overall, what were they thinking with all these name additions? A few of them make sense, but not a lot. And a couple where the case is much stronger e.g. the cross-border Beds/Herts constituency is still just "Hitchin" where they haven't expanded the name, where they should have.

In fairness, those areas of Beds have Hitchen as their nearest major town, and Hitchin is central in the new constituency. I think that name is fine.

I move we start referring to the "Boundary and constituency renaming Commissions" and see how they like it.

I can't help but feel the absurdly long and complex names are at least partly because of the imposition of an overly restrictive quota. There are a number of areas (such as Solihull) where a slightly more flexible quota would allow for a more sensible pattern of constituencies that wouldn't invoke the wrath of residents who feel a short name doesn't reflect where they live.

As if we hadn't already got enough 'This and That' names, we're now expanding to 'This, That and the Other'. Enough already. I'm going to start referring to constituencies by the first meaningful part of the name only, and I'll ignore the gazetteer of obscure local placenames tacked on the end.
The saving in pixels will be enormous.
NB: As exceptions to the general rule, one or two long-established and sensible 'This and That' names will be suffered to continue. 'Orkney and Shetland', 'Thirsk and Malton' and probably one or two others.

"Doncaster East and Axholme" has been renamed "Doncaster East and the Isle of Axholme"
Another pointless change that unnecessarily makes the name of the constituency longer than it needs to be.

When I find access to a straight list of all the constituencies, I intend to start a thread along the lines of 'Forum Preferred Correct and Short-form Constituency names'. I will post them in batches starting from the top. I would like to do it from Shetland to St Ives if such a list exists?

Oh! Don't they just trip off the tongue and warm the heart. I love that Yell is a tack-on to Whalsay and the minute Uyea is in twice. Magic.

Interestingly on their election night coverage I noticed that Sky News did a lot of abbreviations or shortenings of constituency names when displaying their battleground boards. I suggest we all just adopt them and refuse to use the 'official' names.

Did the BCE take a leaf out of the Canadian Boundary Commissions' books? Canadian ridings are known for having excessively long names like "Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Lakes"

In recent years the Boundary Commission has proven itself to be irredeemably incompetent. I’ve began to think it should be abolished and it’s functions handed over to a joint committee of Parliament.
