Just when I was thinking that it would be impossible for Trump to find a vice presidential running mate more stupid than himself, they appear to have done it. I suppose it stems from the ignorance of foreign affairs for much of the population of middle America. The problem is that other countries do not elect small town hicks in positions of influence. Hillbilly Elegy isn't the work of a stupid man He has actually written many sensible things.

In some states, Haley's delegates were still required to vote for her, even though she has dropped out.

Right on cue, the HK stock markets are down (as a proxy for China). Vance is clearly seen as no friend of China. China will buy Trump the same way Putin did. Trump's U-turn on the Tiktok and the ban on foreign government ownership of media, and his recent comments about not defending Taiwan "because they took our business" show that all he cares about is money. Trump's foreign policy is for sale, and big donors and supporters with major Chinese interests (e.g. Musk) will ensure that Trump will not put his own profits at risk for US strategic goals. As I was saying on Taiwan, from Trump's own mouth this time: Trump will not defend Taiwan. Or Ukraine. Or Europe. He will defend America and Israel. That's it.

Once someone explains to him that allowing Taiwan to fall would have a serious deleterious effect on the US economy, he'd probably defend Taiwan. With Ukraine it's about principle etc. which Trump cares little for, whereas for Taiwan there are cold hard economic reasons to protect it.

Norwegian journalist with a powerful quote:
'An assassination attempt by a mentally ill person with an AR-15 is a really bad reason to vote for a man who made it easier for the mentally ill to obtain AR-15s'

Goldman Sachs lackie if I'm not mistaken. That's a deal breaker right there, sans all the other red flags. Trump's tax cuts don't help the poorest.

Jamie Dimon is the CEO of JP Morgan Chase, and was noted in this very thread as a potential Democratic candidate.
He would be an interesting choice for Treasury Secretary. A well-known figure across the Democratic and Republican parties. Obama tried to tap him up for the same role.

"Trump will not defend Taiwan. Or Ukraine. Or Europe. He will defend America and Israel. That's it." Depressing. I think that is very sensible indeed and a policy we should follow here in the UK. If the great land mass of Western Europe cannot defend itself despite its mass population and great wealth, and the always advised inestimable benefits of the EU, then it does not deserve to survive. The stark truth is that most nations in Europe are lazy, flaccid and neglectful of defence with torpid populations unwilling to commit to national service, training or actual fighting. The much vaunted Ukraine is replete with draft dodgers and slackers 'in asylum' abroad hoping other people fight for them and pay all the bills. Europe has shamelessly sponged off America and failed to pay its way for defence and it is high time America told it to make its own coffee!

I see it to be about saving money by making flaccid lazy nations wake up to paying for their own defence and behaving sensibly in a tough unrelenting world where there should be no free lunches.

In some states, Haley's delegates were still required to vote for her, even though she has dropped out. How would those law's affect Biden's delegates if he were to drop out? He could drop out but some of the delegates, possibly a majority, would still be legally bound to vote for him. What then? I suspect he would have to formally refuse the nomination.

Trump (whom I dislike and feel quite unfit for office even if 20-years younger) has never made anything 'easier'. The charge could be that he did not make it more difficult when in office? But then neither did a great long line of Democrat presidents either. This is just gormless 'knocking copy'!

Once someone explains to him that allowing Taiwan to fall would have a serious deleterious effect on the US economy, he'd probably defend Taiwan. With Ukraine it's about principle etc. which Trump cares little for, whereas for Taiwan there are cold hard economic reasons to protect it. Advanced semiconductors can currently only be made in Taiwan. If the fabrication plant was not scuttled there would still be sanctions that would cripple semiconductors being produced for a few years in China. America is trying to build fabrication plants and not there yet. But if there was a strong chance that they would be there soon, that could sway Trump. I still suspect Trump will support Taiwan partly because in the end he bows to the foreign policy consensus - as he did over aid/loans to Ukraine earlier this year - but also because he's a hawk on China and he'll be amenable to having the American sphere of influence in the Pacific as close to China's coast as possible.
