SIR HUMPHREY: Bernard, when you move on from here, where do you plan to go? BERNARD: Well, I... er... I... I don't know. SIR HUMPHREY: Like to be in charge of defence procurement? BERNARD: Oh, gosh... SIR HUMPHREY: In Sunderland or Berwick or Lossiemouth? BERNARD: Is that a place? SIR HUMPHREY: Lossiemouth? What'd you think it was? BERNARD: A dog food. SIR HUMPHREY: If the Employment Secretary has his way, you may get a diet of Lossiemouth. Excellent article. Very sad circumstances to the by-election.

True but it is hard to take an interest in a parish council election between a Farmer , a housewife and a local resident for 25 years LOL Of curse it is - because they're only real people and not arsey-politico-careerist-message-followers...

I think this calls for a celebration! I thought you might enjoy that result. I knew he'd win. Is that your first TUSC councillor elected?

Moray is tweeting the progress of the count in Heldon and Laich, but without figures. We know Jeff Hamilton (Ind) was eliminated after the first count, and James McKessack-Leitch (SGP) went out after the second count.

Percentages:
Ind C 31.4 SNP 26.9 (-10.1) Con 15.3 (-2.0) Ind T 13.5 Grn 7.4 (+0.8) Ind H 5.6
I'd guess we're looking at an indy gain here.

Lossiemouth was the home of Ramsay MacDonald, and also of the Moray Golf Club which formally banned him from the links in 1916 because of his opposition to the war. A much improved replacement memorial to Ramsay Mac was opened in Lossie, by his three living grand-daughters, a couple of years ago. I was interested to note that the Council seemed not to be involved at all, everything being done by the chamber of trade with the opening arrangements being conducted by the Lord Lieutenant. Local Labour Party members were invited.

Traynor (Ind) now out of the contest in Heldon and Laich. Cowe now the only Independent left in the running. Independent votes tend to transfer to other Independents before the party candidates, so Traynor transfers may well take Cowe over quota.

Not quite: after the third stage, the votes were Cowe (Ind) 1,273, Crowther (SNP) 960, Bloomfield (C) 558. Bloomfield now eliminated.

Close to a half of votes not transferred now. The indy leading SNP on transfers close to 3:1. That's a pretty bad result for the SNP, all told.

Clear victory for Cowe on the final count:
Cowe (Ind) 1,507 Crowther (SNP) 1,005

Conservative + Green +Ind H+ Ind T = 1,294 votes.
- 535 (41%) ultimately transferred to Ind C - 172 (13%) to SNP - 587 (45%) not transferred.
This lack of transfers appears to be getting higher rather than lower as we were assured it would when the system was first introduced.
Ind C was elected with less than half the votes, 48.6% of valid ones.
