Former poster @barnabymarder. Good lord. That's a bit sudden, isn't it?

My response to his post about Churchill on the Edward Colston thread. Which was? Please feel free to refer me to a different thread.

My response to his post about Churchill on the Edward Colston thread. But you made a perfectly valid and reasonable point. Not one which all historians agree with, but thats the nature of the beast - as you say, in hindsight we are almost bound to interpret things differently

But apparently some members of the forum are above even the mildest criticism.

Greater ManchesterBolton SE Manchester Withington needs improvementManchester Gorton Oldham W & Royton Oldham E & Saddleworth Ashton under Lyne Denton & Reddish Hazel Grove Wythenshawe & Sale E I could do Wythenshawe, except I can't fathom how it was a Conservative seat between its creation in 1950 up to 1964 when it was taken by Labour. It did contain Didsbury at the time, which I can imagine was conservative back then, but surely even they couldn't outweigh the sprawling estate's vote, which surely should have been Labour, except it seems like it wasn't? Whereas today all the Conservative votes in 'Sale East' do nothing to make this anything other than a safe Labour seat. Surely the Sale East element in terms of population is probably the same as that of Didsbury?

I guess the basic answer is that it grew and kept on growing...

So, with a mixture of happiness and sadness (since I enjoyed doing them) I think Northern Ireland is the first region to declare and (picks up trumpet , exhales into it) all a one-man job.
I'm hoping to go back and add a bit to some of those done. Some of the non-NI constituencies I could have done now seem to be complete so that's my part mostly finished. What's the current total?

I was hoping that Barnaby Marder’s contributions could be rescued, but it seems not. I will therefore have a go at the Brighton seats, and I’m sure someone else here can do a new profile for Cambridge, and for Manchester Central.

Is it just me or has progressed slowed down on this a bit? Are we running out of seats we know, or are people losing interest or is there some other issue?

Definitely running out of seats people are "familiar" with, also the easing of lockdown means some may be more occupied outside this forum again.
But that reminds me, I did (slightly rashly, perhaps) promise to do at least some Cumbrian seats a while back.....

I think most people have done the seats that they are confident with. How many constituencies have we an entry for? I have been intending to start on the rest of Devon, where I don’t think we have anyone with very close local ties.

I "know" him on Facebook so I was going to message him to see if we could get them back but I ever got round to it for a variety of reasons. I was think of attempting Devon W & Torridge because I know the area around Appledore and Bideford relatively well, but I know less than nothing about any of the rest of the seat. If it helps I will do some that I'm less familiar with but can research, although I was waiting to see if someone else would do them from local knowledge.

Re Devon West and Torridge, that would be the Devon seat of which I have least knowledge, and therefore would be the last that I would attempt! Your attempt would be welcome,
