That is quite impressive even though the late Councillor had been a Lib Dem pre coalition.

Ashfield Independent would be very surprising in Ashford.

That is quite impressive even though the late Councillor had been a Lib Dem pre coalition. Lib Dems have been making gains in Stratford against an unpopular Tory administration for a while now, Tories close to losing to NOC.

Ashford for Jason Zardrozny I think Ms Cornish is a long way from being a Zardroznist.

Incidentally, I have kept out of commenting much on PFN from a Lib Dem perspective as I thought it would be embarassingly bad, given a lttle local difficulty at present. Even so I didn't expect us to fail to get the nomination list out to vote.Quite shameful.

I was probably getting it mixed up with Soay. It's a lovely piece of music though. It certainly is, and I've played it many times. Soay of course has given its name to a breed of sheep. Now you're getting your Soays mixed up. The sheep are from the one in the St Kilda archipelago, not the one off Skye.

Indeed, it looks as though the Ashford Independents were the only ones trying. It would have been a minor miracle for the Lib Dems to get into 3 figures in this particular ward for the first time, and if the LD vote had been in the twenties like Labour I would not have complained, but single figures is really embarassing. I am also a bit narked as I offered to deliver for them, in spite of all my current problems, and they didn't even bother to reply.Presumably they had nothing to deliver. However the really astonishing result is Aline Hicks for the Tories. Former Ashford Independent, ( was there something personal going on between her and the local AI's?), former Conservative councillor with a thumping majority in a neighbouring ward, replacing a Conservative councillor who had resigned on becoming MP elsewhere, so moving into rock safe Tory ward- and absolutely collapsing it! What the hell was going on? I confess I have no idea.

Very surprising indeed. A midlands Polish independent takes a seat in Kent! Strange times.

Very good, but Staffa is miles away from Skye, and not in the ward being contested today. Maybe he was thinking of Scalpay? Indeed . I remember my 2008 motorboat trip to Staffa very well, going from Iona. It was right at the end of the season, the last trip to Staffa that year and it was exceptionally rough, indeed the boatman admitted afterwards he had got it wrong and would not have set off had he known just how rough it would be. Indeed Eileen and I, my then vicar and his wife, and the boatman were the only ones not being hopelessly sick and the only ones staying outside on deck (two facts not unrelated). Once on Staffa though, a glorious experience we would not have missed for anything. But not sure we could have survived had we been setting off from Skye rather than Iona.

I went there from Iona in the late 90s. It was relatively calm, but some people still found it a challenge getting off the boat! It's a wonderful place.

This weeks results feel like the Conservative’s worst local week for a while, perhaps since the general election. At least partly because there were no Conservative/ Labour contests this week. Though the Tories failed to win a very winnable one in Blaby a fortnight ago.

I wonder how many more council byelections we will get to analyse before everything electoral goes into coronavirus "suspended animation"?
