Surprised at the lack of discussion for this by-election, given how marginal the ward is.

Very close to home this one . Not that it gives me any great foresight into the result. Genuinely a wide open contest . The independent interventions make extrapolating any indicators for the mayoral election difficult.

If this is indeed what the winner Luke Mason looks like, then he reminds me of someone. Someone in another part of Yorkshire indeed.

I thought the circumstances of the by election might hurt the Conservatives here, even in an area that they are doing well in at the moment.

Pretty good result for LibDems in the circs, which is good even if it makes a total hash of my predictions. Good for the Tories , obviously- I thought the business of the last candidate might have had some effect- but disaster for Labour and we expected far more from Morrish- does anyone know which way round the two Indys were?- not that it matters much now!

Teaches me not to enter the prediction competition I wouldn’t take it to heart- I don’t think any of us got anywhere near that one!

An active lib dem campaign just gifted a Tory landslide. Boris honeymoon still persists in ' aspirational ' areas like Coulby Newham . Labour need to get their shitshow back on the road quickly or we have 4 more years of Houchen's crap to put up with.

I don't think you can blame the strong Lib Dem campaign- seems to me it mainly picked up the votes that many of us had expected to go to the Indies, especially Morrish. Either way it seems the voters weren't voting Labour, and even a single anti-Tory candidate would not have been enough.

Labour need to get their shitshow back on the road quickly or we have 4 more years of Houchen's crap to put up with. While it must be tempting to blame the lib dems, the responsibility for Labour's abject failure lies with labour and only labour. If you ever want to win the red wall back you should be hammering us on cost of living issues like boris' rumoured u-turn on fuel duty. But instead your leadership election has become a contest to see who's the biggest denier of basic human biology. And you wonder why your vote share implodes...
