All I can say about the Noble Lord, Lord Lebedev, as he will now have to be called, is that he looks the part. That is to say Russian oligarch. He will fit in well as the HOL is now full of riff-raff! So no change there then.
The Lords has always been full of the descendants of Royal bastards, warlords, murderers, pirates (sorry, buccaneers), slave traders and newspaper tycoons...

Most of the content of this thread appears to be about appointment of peers and next to none is about defections.
Can this thread be relocated and renamed. It is most confusing.

Unfortunately no, we could have changed it if you'd said "this thread apeers", but sadly you didn't.

But which is the most "modest" - Siberia or the London Borough of Richmond, which it has been claimed has more members of the Lords than the whole of the North of England. Does this include Lady Hale? Because the Richmond in her title is the one in Yorkshire. No. Along with Angie Harris (Baroness Harris of Richmond).

He will fit in well as the HOL is now full of riff-raff! True. Most of the new Tories are not toffs, just rich refugees from making money in the City or PR. A lot of them don't seem to come in much either.

I’m surprised Lord Lebedev was okay with losing non-domicile status for tax purposes. I imagine his arrangements are more complex and more subtle than those of Michael Ashcroft.

Ten Tories/Rightwingers including Wolfson (Sentamu is a rightwinger), 5 Labour (all North of England or nearly-North - good for Starmer, 3 X-benchers who remain to be seen - the two judges will no doubt join the ex-judge's voting pattern. So it won't make any significant different to Lords voting patterns. Still it's a good time to sneak out bad news (ie another 15 members of Their Lordship's House).

Interested that you class Sentamu as a right-winger. He takes typically Christian stances on the expected issues, but you think he is on the right on other issues too?

Surprising that Etherton isn't getting a Bercow-style non-nomination.

It is an unusual way to "reduce the numbers" in the Lords...

Maybe get three of four hundred to defect to not being members of the House of Lords?
It would get this thread back on track!

I’ve never understood why they aren’t simply appointed for fixed terms.
