Galloway usually only stands in seats with large Muslim populations. This one is much more Hindu than Muslim - unless it's changed very quickly. There's a sizeable muslim community in Evington, with the main school being Crown Hills, which some local wags have dubbed "Koran Hills".
It was a surprise that Galloway chose to stand in West Bromwich East at the last GE, the asian community there being largely sikh and hindu. WBW would have been a better fit, but even then the muslim community is fairly small. He doesn't get it right all the time, and he bombed in WBE.
having lived in Evington and vague recollections of Crown Hill I have never heard anyone refer to it as that.

When has Galloway got it right anywhere in the last 8 years? Perhaps he has his own definition of "getting it right"? He needs to support his large family somehow.

Presumably one of the main motivations for standing in WBE was to run against Tom Watson, but then Watson stood down anyway

Is Leicester a very imperalist place? Regular talk of invading Derby perhaps? Everywhere is Imperialist for Gorgeous George. Or at least any country inhabited by Keir Starmer Everywhere except Palestine, Cuba and Iran.

The appeal hearing which was due start tomorrow has been delayed until 19th May due to “case management issues”

Galloway usually only stands in seats with large Muslim populations. This one is much more Hindu than Muslim - unless it's changed very quickly. I lived in Rushey Mead Ward of Leicester East for four years in the 1980s and while there was a Muslim population there, they were well outnumbered by Hindus and Sikhs. There was no obvious gulf between the three groups and schisms tended to split both the Sikhs and the Hindus. While I was living there, Indira Gandhi sent troops into the Golden Temple. This divided rather than united the Sikhs in Leicester. We had good friends with people from all three communities. The divide was always between those who gave priority to communal issues and those who did not and took a broader view.

Without looking at the numbers I got the impression that there were pockets of Muslims in Spinney Hill, Rowlatts Hill, Crown Hill, bits of Thurnby Lodge and bits of Evington

This means the Leicester East by-election, should the recall petition receive the requisite number of signatures, will likely take place in August.

I remember feeling quite uncomfortable with some of the views expressed. I said at the time that this was a bit unfair and that some of the responsibility had to lie with Hindus, Sikhs, Atheists, lapsed CofE types and indeed those who only wanted to worship at the Cathedral.

I've just a report that there won't be a recall as the original sentence has been reduced to community service.
EDIT: beaten to it.

Well, given the Daily Mail have managed to repeat the 'acid' accusation, even though it was explicitly stated that it should be discounted by the judge.....As I said, it is a 'pro-Webbe source', so not attempting to be impartial. But, it appears, more accurate than the report in the Mail. Perhaps you could provide an accurate summary from a more balanced source? Fact is that the sentence has been drastically reduced, meaning that resignation nor recall is now going to happen.

But, it appears, more accurate than the report in the Mail. that goes without saying. It contains words, it is not Springer or Daily Mail or Russian state affiliated media, hence it is more reliable than the Daily Mail. 50 pounds compensation honestly sounds like the judge felt the accuser got what she had coming (not my own views on the matter, which do not even exist)
