I think (without checking) that you can use old-fashioned descriptions such as "housewife" and "grocer" or "fat old busybody" on parish council ballot papers. ? Yes. The normal restrictions don't apply to parish council elections. |

For what it's worth, I won't be at the Fairfield count tonight (due to high demand for places) but I have given strict instructions to my colleagues to tweet the result as soon as it's declared. From past experience, that should be about 11:30pm.

According to what we have accidentally noticed while the postal votes were being processed, it looks as though the Fairfield by-election will be close. Possibly very close. And there is likely to be a substantial share of votes also for the Lib Dems, although not quite enough to win. I wouldn't be surprised if the winning candidate gets less than a third of the votes. Only one council result, but if Labour want to cause grief here (not that I think they will here and now, though Manchester Labour did in '17), they'll be parading this all around. I make the Labour vote share down by 10.2% in Fairfield and 6.5% in Wadebridge West.
The Independent, intervening in Wadebridge West, has drawn nearly all his votes from the Lib Dem. The Lib Dem vote share is down by 31.6%.
