Certainly the prediction competitors here are divided - out of the 14 taking part, 10 have it down as a Tory gain from Labour. The other 4 have it down as a Lib Dem gain! Not a single one goes for a Labour hold. That probably owes something to the LD gain from the Tories in July in a rather different part of Daventry. I changed my mind and have gone for a Lib Dem gain. Anything could happen though. The Tory candidate lost another by election a few months ago, but she is on home turf this time. I think any of the 3 could win it. . I think the only one of this weeks 8 elections that I would bet on the result on is Exeter. I could see 5 Lib Dem gains or zero Lib Dem gains.

The real wildcard is Flintshire - I think we've all gone for a relatively even split (under 60-40), but potentially could go hugely one way or the other.

Some of us may have noted that the Tory candidate there lived a fair way away. Rural mid wales strikes me as the sort of place where that matters!

Couple of encouraging results for LDs in the Brecon and Radnorshire constituency, then.

But is in Radnorshire (like Llandrindod) rather than Brecknockshire, historically speaking. "Poor Radnorsheer, poor Radnorsheer, Never a park, and never a deer, Never a squire of five hundred a year, Save Richard Fowler of Abbey-Cwm-hir"
