Who are the two Labour peers who used to be Tory MPs? Baron Howarth of Newport, Baron Davies of Stamford The former Alan Howarth and Quentin Davies Alan Howarth certainly didn't switch parties because of the polls. He changed his mind. Peter Kilfoyle MP who was a cynic at the best if times rated him and thought his change if view was genuine I don't know so much about Quentin Davies, but I recall hearing quite a frank interview with him where he said that he had gone along with things he had come to think of as nonsense simply because of tribal affiliation. Neither of them have left Labour.

Bassetlaw had very good local elections for Labour in May. Yes they did but a couple of weeks later the Brexit party did something Ukip did not do which is to win Bassetlaw in a euro election and by a large margin. 2019 Brexit 12,977 47.1% labour 4,127 15% lib dems 3,168 11.5% con 2301 8.4% green 2007 7.3% UKIP 1973 7.2% Change UK 760 2.8% Other (both pro leave as far as i am aware)236 0.9% 2014 result. narrow lab win over ukip by 78. 2009 con win over lab by 1974. 2004 narrow lab win over ukip by 73. 1999 narrow lab win over con by 112. The Bassetlaw constituency does not include the strong con wards of East Markham and Rampton plus more mixed ward of Tuxford which has leaned more con in recent years.

If Tradition is an indicator then the CLP will select the candidate most likely to turn out to be a massive crank.

Crank . Indeed. Ramsey McDonald's son Fred Bellenger, to the right of most Tories. Loved Rhodesia. Hated gays and trade unions Joe Ashton, very good novelist, defender of MPs and Thai massage parlours. Then Mann
This suggests one thing to me. An all-women shortlist and a candidate imposed by the NEC

Neither of them have left Labour. I'd honestly totally forgotten about both of them. Ridiculous really as I've mentioned Howarth on here before.

Is Quentin Davies the predessor to David Cameron in Witney? No, that was Shaun Woodward who defected to Labour and then became MP for St Helens South Quentin Davies was Nick Boles' predecessor in Grantham and Stamford.

Wollaston, Soubry and Allen have all gone from the Tory Party, as have Clarke, Grieve, R. Stewart.
Meanwhile Labour no longer has Frank Field, and both Mann and Hoey are leaving at the next dissolution.
There's going to be a severe lack of 'MPs liked more by the other party than their own' after the next election.

I thought dislike for her was fairly universal.

Mann, for instance, was hardly well-liked by Tories a few years ago and the same is true in reverse for Grieve.

Quentin Davies was Nick Boles' predecessor in Grantham and Stamford. Now there is a Tory Association that are useless at picking candidates.
