If I've understood correctly, he's resigning as an MP as well as from the party and Government. I appreciate that this is likely to be overtaken by a General Election, but as there is no agreement on the date of a General Election, presumably this means a by-election in the meantime as default?

I don't think he's resigning as an MP, just announcing he's standing down at the next GE.

That sounds like an immediate resignation from the Commons, not just a standing down at the next election. I agree. I cannot see any other sensible interpretation of “give up my role as MP”.

It does, but it's in the context of it being obvious that the life of this present Parliament is moving rapidly towards its close.

Blimey,is it 1962 again? I do like his reference to 'family loyalty'.

Has it been clarified if he is stepping down as an MP immediately or not? Though as already pointed out, in a sense it is academic anyway.

Downing Street say he's staying as an MP until the dissolution. But what do they know about anything these days?

Bromley as a whole was marginally Remain in the referendum. We have some folk on here who could probably estimate how Orpington voted.

That sounds like an immediate resignation from the Commons, not just a standing down at the next election. There are no dates. Even Jared gave a date...

Accrington resigned from the league before they were pushed out.

Could Farage throw his hat into the ring here? It's not that pro-Leave, but this is his home constituency, and both the Cray Valley and Biggin Hill look to be naturally Brexit Party leaning.

One of the all time classic ads. Especially as Stanley made it back into the league after decades away.
