Rhondda had a long tradition of Communist electoral activity of course, but then this ward is not actually part of the Rhondda constituency but is the Western part of the town of Pontypridd

At national level there have been so many political upheavals since 2002 (Iraq, the Global Financial Crisis, the Coalition, Brexit....), but that ward has barely swung at all, despite looking quite marginal. Can anyone think of any similarly inelastic wards anywhere else? |

The Chorley winner might have a very short time in office, new wards coming in 2020 and the wards is being thorn apart.
Mawdesley merges with Lostock (usually Conservative, but voted Labour this year for the first time since 1995) and most of Euston South (usually Conservative) to create "Croston, Mawdesley and Euston South".
Eccleston merges with the non-Coppull parts of Chishall (swingy ward) and becomes "Eccleston, Heskin and Charnock Richard".

This one is the Communist Party of Britain, which split away from the Communist Party of Great Britain in 1988, but is de-facto a continuation of the CPGB in terms of archives, policies, and people. The CPGB itself terminated its own existence in 1991, when it split into the Democratic Left (the majority) and the continuity CPGB (the minority). The continuing CPGB didn't continue for very long, and a small bit of it still exists under the name CPGB (Provisional Central Committee). In other words, it's trying to build itself up into some sort of existence, but unsuccessfully. |

thats helpful, when I was at uni we had the CPGB and the CPB(ML) and I had been confused as to where the current CPB fitted in

They've not featured much in the last twenty or thirty years. |

The Independent candidate in Trowbridge today is an ex Conservative councillor who applied for the Conservative nomination and didn’t get it. He has been saying that the deceased councillor told him that he was his preferred successor. Will be interesting to see how he does. It’s possible he might win, or might split the Conservative vote to aid a Lib Dem win.
