Which matters less when Labor and the Coalition are already virtually neck-and-neck in seats anyway. If Labor win a narrow majority then the parallel will be with Whitlam in 1969 and in 1972 (where Labor slashed the Coalition majority in the former after a landslide defeat in 1966 and therefore didn't need to get much more in the latter). A shock Coalition victory would likely involve them holding on in both Dickson and Warringah, which could have interesting implications for the next term.

Still giving Labor a five seat majority over all others.

If you didn’t know already, the ABC are dropping their geoblock to enable people outside Australia to watch the results programme (or you can just go to their YouTube channel where it’s always unblocked anyway).

I recall Antony Green making a big deal of the geoblock being dropped on social media a few years ago, but only for federal elections. That wasn't much use if you wanted to follow state election nights as well (not to mention federal party leadership 'spills'), so YouTube has been the place to go for coverage for a while now.

I think they’ve started to drop it for State elections as well now; I’ve certainly watched two Queensland elections as one of my former CLP colleagues now lives in Brisbane and is employed by the State Labor Party, so I have a bit of extra interest, and I watched Victoria and NSW this year. But the coup against Turnbull was only available via YouTube I think.

I'd be interested to know if any members of the forum are voting in the election today, (and if they'd be prepared to say which party they're supporting if they don't mind being asked).

Australia doesn't have assigned polling stations anyways, you can vote at any voting station in your electorate (and outside of it near the borders) and most cities have a central location where you can vote for all electorates of the metropolitan area.
I'm obviously cheering for Shorten, he would be the first person I saw in person to run a country.

From memory, the first booths start coming in after about half an hour. The impression from the ABC panelists seems to be broadly "Labor optimistic, Coalition pessimistic".

First numbers, from Eden-Monaro and Leichhardt. Swing to the Coalition in the former and to Labor in the latter. There are also numbers from a few other seats, mostly in QL. Nothing really substantial though.

Gilmore looking good for Labor from the earliest figures, but Green 'not quite ready' to call it.

It's looking grim for Abbott in Warringah...

It's looking grim for Abbott in Warringah... And for Labor's Justine Keay in Braddon - ABC are giving it to the Liberals on the current figures.

Lindsay is looking good for the Liberals says Antony Green. Bass is too close to call.
