Cllr Keith Linnecor (Lab, Oscott) has very sadly passed away - which will mean a by-election on Birmingham City Council. That's a real shame - I knew Keith a while back and he was an outstanding cllr. Oscott really was his fiefdom. He really was a lovely bloke and Oscott was very well looked after by him , he and I were the only two councillors who used to always travel to Centro meetings by public transport. His knowledge of bus regulation issues was superb.

This is on 12th March. Ashford council have published an SOPN. That’s Jo Gideon MP’s ward Well it was very briefly!- first elected in May 2019 into a very safe Tory seat, then becoming an MP in December. I hadn't even clocked her as a councillor!

I think she might well be the oldest new MP. She presumably wasn’t expecting to win in Stoke. I assume she is still living full time in Kent.

Park Farm North: This is a ward I used to leaflet regularly for some years (back in the last century),when it was part of Ashford Rural West county division- it has subsequently changed division. It was almost entirely part of a the large new estate carved out of the old parish of Kingsnorth and was the first part to be completed-it will be almost entirely late twentieth century new build except for a handful of houses on the old main road coming from Ashford. In my day we had a sprinkling of LD members in the ward but the Tories were very well established from the first build , most of which was high end owner occupier new builds. It did have an Independent councillor for a while because the veteran Independent councillor Reg Harrington who had been councillor for Kingsnorth and was an ex-mayor, moved from Kingsnorth village into one of the new houses he had strenuously opposed being built and then served a term as Indy councillor for PFN. Otherwise solidly Tory- at the last election here Theresa Dickens got 91 votes for the Lib Dems which was I think our best performance there this century! With the anti-Tory vote split 4 ways this time it looks as though it will be be easy for Aline Hicks.

Additional information about this Conservative candidate: Aline Hicks had once been an Ashford Independent but had lost Park Farm South to the Tories in 2003!Then from 2007-19 she was Conservative councillor in Weald South, peaking top of the poll with a vote of well over 2000, before eventually losing to an Ashford Independent, so now trying for a comeback in the much safer environment of PFN.
