There are three Aldermanic elections coming up in the City of London, for Coleman Street, Dowgate and Farrington Within wards. All three Aldermen (respectively Peter Estlin, Alison Gowman and Vincent Keaveny) are seeking re-election. In the event that any of them are opposed for re-election the poll will be on 19th December. All three outgoing Aldermen are unopposed and will be formally re-elected at the Wardmote on Wednesday 18th December.

This seat's on 2018-2022 term, so not covered by 6 months rule I think, but probably a good chance that it will be held off for a double election in May.

That's an awful lot of by-elections on December 12th. Any special reason?

A few returning officers got together and thought it would be a laugh if they all held by elections on the same day and tried to convince people there was a general election going on.

You'll get a whistlestop tour. I've no time to write anything more and you've no time to read anything more.

I've no time to write anything more and you've no time to read anything more. I was getting quite worried, my mum enjoys them as well but her eyesight isn’t what it used to be so I’ve had to start reading them aloud; I was going to bulk order Strepsils!

As Returning Officer fees are pensionable (but not those of election staff), the UK Parliamentary Election is a christmas present on top of the District Council elections and the European elections. All three in the same year boost the final year earnings for a defined benefit pension. I suspect quite a few Chief Executives will be retiring in the next year.

Clearly something funny in the water in Brent. Anyway, this is p**s poor co-ordination with the general election date, but a THIRD councillor has resigned their seat. This time it is Luke Patterson (Lab, Wembley Central). Again, personal reasons are cited as the cause. The local press haven't picked up on any falling-outs within the Labour Group, so we must accept this at face value.
